We are a diverse team and welcome applicants from a wide range of clinical and health care backgrounds.Our team supports a wide range of studies from observational studies through to clinical trials ranging from phase 1, first in human- later phase 4.The role will suit somebody who has comprehensive nursing experience with our patient groups or prior clinical research experience.On successful appointment, there is a tailored comprehensive induction and training programme.


The Role of the Clinical Research Nurse | NIHR
The main base is the John Radcliffe Hospital, the post-holder will lead in the provision of a clinical study service.


Study Coordination of commercial trials and large cohort studies.
Delivery of complex investigative medicines.
You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies focused mainly on MND.
Recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data including collection and management of tissue and/or samples.
Supporting a wide range of research clinics.
Supervising and supporting junior staff.

Our team is part of Division 4 Neurology, Mental Health, Ageing and Neurodegenerative diseases with the Thames Valley and South Midlands area.


We are a diverse team of research nurses, practitioners and administrators. Working closely with clinicians to support and deliver research across our patient groups. The team comes from a variety of backgrounds such as Nursing, Mental Health, Psychology, Biochemistry and NHS to name a few.


The CRN: Thames Valley and South Midlands is one of 15 local Clinical Research Networks in the NIHR Clinical Research Network (NIHR CRN). The NIHR CRN is the clinical research delivery arm of the NHS in England, tasked with supporting the rapid set-up and effective conduct of studies, so that researchers can gather the robust evidence needed to improve treatments for NHS patients. These local Networks drive clinical research delivery performance across the locality, and champion the role of clinical research in the NHS at every level.


Registered Adult Nurse
UK recognised first level degree (HEI Level 6), in Nursing
Significant experience and expertise within speciality of ageing, neurology, mental health or neurodegenerative diseases - supplemented by specialist training to post-graduate diploma level
Specialist post-graduate education / qualifications or training relevant to area of clinical practice and/or clinical research delivery
Good Clinical Practice training
Human Tissue Act training
Informed consent training
Knowledge of NHS research governance and policy
Associate Principal Investigator/Principal Investigator training

Competency in clinical skills relevant to clinical research area - may include but not limited to vital sign recording, drug administration, phlebotomy/ cannulation/ECG/ cognitive assessment
Competency in high level of accuracy and when assessing participants and documenting research and care activities
Commitment to evidencing own professional development, capabilities, and competency development
Evidence of effective team working and team leadership (when required) as part of research delivery team

Willingness and enthusiasm towards working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in delivering research and care, as required
Shows pride in the quality of care they provide for clinical research participants, learning from setbacks and successes

Role model promoting clinical research delivery nursing
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with service support departments, clinical research associates, sponsor representative, R& D staff as appropriate
Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective research and care delivery

Personal qualities and skills
Clean driving license/access to car if needed for post
Computer literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office packages
