Role Description:

We are seeking an experienced IBM iSeries Tech Lead to manage and enhance our production environment. This role involves the oversight of IBM hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs). You will be responsible for managing the design, deployment, configuration, and ongoing support of IBM infrastructure, focusing on efficiency, security, and maintaining an up-to-date operating environment. Additionally, you will oversee live system incidents, collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure quick resolutions and adherence to SLAs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Incident Management: Manage all support requests within agreed SLAs, ensuring efficient resolution of critical issues.
  2. 3rd Line Support: Provide high-level support for critical applications running on the iSeries platform, such as Bastion.
  3. Knowledge Base Management: Build and maintain a comprehensive team knowledge base, facilitating easy access for junior staff.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with business leads and 3rd party suppliers to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
  5. Risk & Audit Management: Actively manage risks and ensure adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
  6. DR Testing: Verify disaster recovery systems in accordance with the annual DR policy.
  7. Change & Project Management: Deliver change requests and project milestones within agreed timelines.
  8. Problem Management: Address recurring issues through proper processes and escalate where necessary.
  9. Post-Implementation: Ensure successful delivery into production with business sign-off.
  10. System Monitoring & Maintenance: Ensure effective monitoring and management of iSeries partitions, hardware, and software, including Power8 architecture and associated components.

Key Skills/Experience Required:

  1. IBM iSeries Expertise: Proficiency in operating system upgrades, security management, high availability setup, performance analysis, and system monitoring.
  2. Problem Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to trace and resolve root causes of system issues.
  3. Technical Leadership: Act as a technical mentor for the iSeries team, offering guidance and acting as the primary point of contact for non-application queries.
  4. Infrastructure Management: Experience managing IBM Power8 architecture (servers, tape drives, SAN, VIOS, HMC) and maintaining compliance with PTFs, certificates, and licenses.
  5. Optimization & Cost Management: Identify synergies and propose innovative solutions to reduce operating costs and maximize resources.
  6. Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all technical documentation is up to date and maintain compliance with data governance and risk management policies.
  7. Collaboration: Engage in knowledge sharing and actively support testing teams with any requests.
  8. Performance Monitoring: Conduct regular performance analysis and maintain security policies across all iSeries partitions.
