Your new companyHays are working exclusively with a Public Sector organisation who are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join their team in Shrewsbury, working remotely with travel to the office 1 day per month Your new role

  • You will be responsible for the following: Manage and control the processing of payroll, including status changes, annual leave, pay details, payroll and sickness records in accordance with relevant legislation; checking all necessary information to complete the monthly payroll runs
  • Liaise with line managers to ensure payroll information is correct
  • Respond to payroll queries in a timely manner
  • Administer pension schemes, ensuring deductions are made and appropriate records maintained; to liaise with pension providers as necessary
  • Manage escalated queries ensuring errors are corrected, and making additional payments when authorised. Informing the billing and contract management if appropriate.
  • Year end reconciliations and processing; year end information for auditors and resolving auditors queries;
  • Ensure all agency shifts are correct, approved and paid on a timely basis. Using the procedures guidance.
  • Prepare the reconciliations and complete payroll journals; analyse and monitor payroll costs for management accounts;
  • Assist with budget preparation tasks and support the annual pay review process by ensuring that the agreed pay rates are implemented.
  • Checking and auditing of the payroll function; maintain and develop payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures. Always seeking to improve internal controls.

What you'll need to succeedYou should have a good knowledge of Payroll, Sage Payroll experience would be a benefit but not essential You will need excellent attention to details and accuracy as well as strong Excel skills. you should be able to get to the Shrewsbury Office 1 day per month What you'll get in returnThis is an excellent opportunity to work for a friendly team, where you are able to work remotely with just 1 day per month in the Shrewsbury office.
