Your Role: Rapiscan Cargo and Vehicle (CVI) division is seeking a highly skilled Technical Business Development Director to spearhead the development of commercial R&D activities. This role focuses on identifying and establishing opportunities within the UK and EU for funded mechanisms to develop low TRL (1-6) technologies in alignment with the CVI innovation roadmap.

As the Technical Business Development Director, you will:

  • Drive Innovation: Lead the development of low TRL (1-6) technologies, aligning with our CVI innovation roadmap.
  • Build Networks: Leverage your existing connections and forge new relationships to support our innovation goals.
  • Secure Funding: Draft high-quality, technically detailed proposals to secure funding from government bodies, academic institutions, industry collaborators, and funding managers. The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in a scientific discipline, preferably Physics, and have a proven track record in securing funding from external agencies, including government bodies, academic institutions, industry collaborators, and research councils.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including physicists, data scientists, research technicians, and funding managers, to ensure project success.
  • Communicate: Provide regular updates to Senior Management and offer feedback to Sales and Marketing on product status and market expectations.
  • Strategize: Develop processes for new programs, including technical justification, ROI, and market growth.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD in Physics or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in Commercial R&D.
  • A proven track record in securing funding from external agencies, including government bodies, academic institutions, industry collaborators, and research councils.
  • Knowledge of X-ray imaging techniques is a plus.
