This is an exciting time for the Project Better Energy Data Team and the wider business units within Project Better Energy (Project Solar UK, Project Curv, Project EV, Project Digital).


We are building a new centralised reporting data warehouse and associated SSOT reporting in Power BI; building a high-quality, user-friendly repository for our previous data and future data; putting in place new ETL tools; moving to SaaS based infrastructure and consolidating all of our systems data flows; designing new user-friendly, advanced reporting and insightful dashboards using Power BI


You’ll join a fast-paced team which focuses on quality and effectiveness of delivery but which also values and invests in your development within a team environment that’s friendly and open.

We are particularly interested in people with experience working with building ETL workflows, and in creating impactful Power BI reporting. The BI Developer role will be responsible for converting raw data from multiple sources into usable information to provide analytics, insights and reporting which will drive decision making and challenge assumptions. In this role under the BI Manager, you will work with both the Management and Operational teams to elicit the underlying data and process issues that need to be understood and documented for accurate reporting. The role will require the post-holder to communicate between technical and non-technical functions within the organisation; innovate in the ways where value can be derived from data and optimise data design to support business opportunities.


As our BI Developer , you will focus on technical infrastructure, database design and ETL process requirements, with the added skills to scope, design and build Power BI dashboards. Working with our other Data/BI roles for building and maintaining Power BI workspaces, dashboards, datasets and reports as required by the business.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Build and deliver accurate data models that abide by best practice.
  • Support stakeholders to identify reporting needs and requirements.
  • Effectively plan and execute activities such as data cleansing, data migration, ETL, data modelling and mapping.
  • Responsible for developing DAX queries and functions in Power BI.
  • Transform data, add analytical logic, and build reports for multiple business domains.
  • Drive self-service by educating non-technical stakeholders on the use and interpretation of data under their governance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements, define scope and build solutions.
  • Work with large and complex data sets to design and build Power BI reporting outputs for stakeholders across the business.
  • Help drive data quality and data controls. Identify data integrity issues and assist to design solution fixes, identifying blockers and ensure issues are resolved to stakeholders’ satisfaction.
  • Perform data modelling across multiple operational systems, mapping relationships between disparate datasets.


Required experience:


  • 2+ years’ experience using SQL and as a BI Developer, using the tools above, in relevant role.
  • Extensive Power BI report development experience, including dashboard creation, data visualisation and DAX. Power BI qualification highly desirable.
  • Proficient in relational database design and interrogation. Strong understanding of Data Warehousing concepts, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes with dimensional data modelling experience.
  • Proven experience working with large data sets and optimizing data processing.
  • Experience working with data with a focus on analytics, data cleansing, ETL, data modelling & data mapping.
  • Excellent analytical & problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse data, identify issues/opportunities, and design real time solutions.
