Fossil Free London is a campaign group that fights the fossil fuel industry in our city.

We need people who are deeply driven to organise climate action, so we can make urgent change, whilst being highly professional and able to deliver time and again.

We are a fast paced, energetic and welcoming grassroots organisation which opposes the presence of fossil fuel corporations in our city, and explores what London could be without them. We execute a range of creative and disruptive protests in the city, with a focus on bringing new activists into the climate movement and amplifying our impact through social media and the news.

We have four existing members of staff and an organiser network of hundreds of activists. 

We are now looking to hire a motivated and experienced Operations Manager with excellent attention to detail and the ability to make our organisation more efficient through creating and managing new systems. The role will oversee our organisational operations including day-to-day administrations, digital operation, recruitment, and financial management (although likely not fundraising, unless this is a particular skill of the right applicant). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our mission to stop climate breakdown.

This role will report to the Director of Fossil Free London. While operations will be the main responsibility for this post, as a small organisation support is likely to be required across other areas. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Director, managing organisational operations, such as policies and processes, budgeting, recruitment, and finance
  • Managing operational administration, such as expenses, documentation storage, onboarding, digital platforms, budget sheets, tracking funders’ objectives, booking venues
  • Maintaining digital security across platforms
  • Working closely with Social Change Nest, provide oversight to finances
  • Working closely with Independent Advisory Group to ensure standard of organisational operations
  • Supporting the Director to ensure group functions in line with ethical, strategic and legal responsibilities 
  • Supporting the Director and rest of the staff team as needed

Key skills and experience:

Organisational operations

  • Preparing and review policies and processes
  • Managing budgeting and forecasting
  • Managing end-to-end recruitment process
  • Preparing and facilitating workshops

Operational admin

  • Logging, organising and upkeeping digital storage and databases e.g. photo logs for press, lists of actions, press appearances
  • Managing expenses and invoices
  • Maintaining digital security across platforms
  • Managing data and GDPR compliance
  • Maintaining the staff handbook
  • Managing physical infrastructure - e.g. office spaces and storage unit

Finance

  • Tracking and recording income and expenditure
  • Maintaining oversight of the budget and projections
  • Identify and assign spending to funding streams
  • Leading on invoicing and expenses
  • Advising staff and organisers on available budget

Essential skills and attributes

  • Highly organised and attentive to detail
  • Experience of operations including recruitment, finance and administration
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience of contributing to the development of operations and policy processes
  • Digital proficiency
  • Able to work independently and flexibly in a small team
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Fossil Free London

Desirable

  • Experience in financial management or support
  • Highly numerate
