We are looking for an individual with a strong background in container shipping markets to take a lead role in maintaining and developing our containership sector forecasts, analytical reports, and market risk analysis. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to develop strong links with MSI’s global client base and overall commercial awareness in a company at the forefront of shipping consultancy.


Main Responsibilities:


·       Containership Market Analysis and Modelling:

o  Taking a lead role in a small team which maintains and develops MSI’s databases, models and near- and long-term forecasts for containerised trade and port throughput, containership supply and deployment, freight rates, and vessel timecharter rates and asset values

o  Contributing to our regular (monthly and quarterly) containership written reports

o  Providing ad hoc client support and support to MSI’s sales and marketing team.

o  Taking a proactive approach to respond to new trends and issues in container shipping markets, and working to enhance MSI’s containership services accordingly


·       Market Presentations and Consultancy Projects:

o  Presentations up to board-level audience on container shipping market trends, outlook and risks

o  Occasional presentations at shipping and logistics-orientated conferences

o  Delivering bespoke consultancy projects, typically including written market reports, presentations and Excel models outlining the containership market outlook and risks


Experience & Education:


The work will be carried out in close collaboration with our team of cross-sector analysts and consultants and will report to Director level. The ideal candidates will have:


·       A minimum upper second-class degree

·       Minimum 3 years’ of directly relevant employment experience. Professional or academic experience with international economics or economic forecasting is desirable

·       Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of current market, economic and policy challenges facing the container shipping industry

·       Excellent analytic and quantitative skills, and experience of working with large datasets

·       Proficiency in Excel, competency with PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills, or knowledge of programming languages and business intelligence applications, would be an advantage

·       Excellent written and verbal communication, and a track record of analytical report-writing, with the ability to explain industry concepts to a diverse audience

·       Strong organizational skills with the capability to meet tight deadlines and respond to changing priorities.

·       The aptitude to learn quickly and work competently in both a team or on an individual basis

·       The determination to produce results to the highest of standards, with a desire to increase efficiency and productivity without losing attention to detail
