Vallum Associates is a leading provider of market insights and analysis to the shipping and oil industries. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Analyst to join our team in London.

The Role

As a Research Analyst, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing large datasets related to the shipping and oil markets. Your primary objective will be to extract valuable insights and trends from this data, which will be used to inform business decisions and drive growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain databases and models covering the oil and shipping markets
  • Extract information and answer questions from large datasets, including trade movements and fleet utilization
  • Provide regular reports on changes in the oil and shipping markets
  • Create visual analytic dashboards for easy analysis of data by senior management
  • Develop material for internal presentations, external investors, and partners

Requirements

  • 2.1 minimum analytical (STEM, Economics, Business, etc.) or maritime/oil & energy related degree
  • 1-year minimum experience in an analytical environment, ideally shipping or the oil industry
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Analytical software/database experience desirable
  • Experience or a desire to learn how to use programs such as Tableau and Alteryx
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
