Aboutthe Team

We are looking torecruit a Senior Sanctions Adviser which will sit within the Officeof Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) which is within theInternational Group. The Group provides opportunities to work onareas including - spending control on international development,trade policy, climate change, health, cooperation on Ukraine,economic security, financial sanctions and tackling illicitfinance. We also manage economic relationships with Europe,US, China and other advanced economies and emerging markets.

OFSI sits within HM Treasury has beenoperational since March 2016 and in its first six years quicklyestablished itself as a world-leader in financial sanctions, a keyarea of financial, foreign and national security policy. It remainsfront and centre of an unprecedented financial sanctions responseto the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

HM Treasuryimplements financial sanctions in the UK, and OFSI fulfils thisrole on its behalf. It works closely with law enforcement,intelligence agencies and strategic policy colleagues acrossWhitehall and beyond to help ensure that financial sanctions areaccurately understood, implemented and enforced. OFSI has importantpartner relationships in the regulated financial services sector,the primary implementers of financial sanctions, and is an integralpart of the sanctions community worldwide. Robust enforcement offinancial sanctions helps to maintain the integrity of andconfidence in the UK financial sector, a priority for the PrimeMinister and the Chancellor. OFSI has strong powers, including toimpose monetary penalties, and is in the front line in the fightagainst this seriouscrime.


Aboutthe Job

In this role, keyresponsibilities willinclude:

  • Managing a broad portfolio ofcases utilising case management and prioritisationtechniques
  • Keep the Case Management system upto date to ensure accurate and timely data
  • Developing and maintaining strong workingrelationships, especially with Foreign Commonwealth and DevelopmentOffice (FCDO) and HM Treasurycolleagues
  • Interacting with licence applicantsand their representatives through clear written and oralcommunications
  • Obtaining and assessing evidencefrom a variety of sources to make licensingrecommendations
  • Understanding differentindustries, particularly in the financial sector, to understand theflow of funds and the responsibilities of differentparticipants
  • Providing concise, accurate andtimely advice, orally and in writing, to Senior Civil Servants andMinisters
  • Potential line managementresponsibility for 1-2 Range Cs
  • Lead on policyand process improvement projects, including with OFSI and OtherGovernment Department colleagues
  • RepresentOFSI at internal and external events
  • Lead oncross-OFSI and/or cross-HMTworkstreams
