Aboutthe Team

The Strategy, Planningand Budget Group (SPB) sits at the heart of the Treasury to developoverall strategy, co-ordinate the Chancellor’s annual Budget, andlead the Treasury’s engagement with the COVID-19 Public Inquiry;we’re also home to a large, flexible project team who work acrossthe full range of ministerial priorities, support excellence inpolicy-making, and work to ensure the successful delivery of theDarlington EconomicCampus.


Our GroupManagement Support team (GMS) exist to provide our Directors, andthe wider senior leadership team, with excellent administrative andbusiness support, and provide them with first class PA/businesssupport.


We arecurrently recruiting two exciting roles to the GMS team:

1.      GMSManager (this role - currentlyvacant)

2.      Headof Group Management (a new role with a strategic focus to supportDirectors and GMT, and which will provide overall leadership of theGMS – see separate role profile).

Aboutthe Job

The SPB GMS Managercontributes to the operational function of SPB which works on someof the most exciting policy challenges facing our country. This isa highly visible role within the group and wider department due tothe central role of SPB within the Treasury.


Keyresponsibilitiesinclude:


1.      Providingexcellent leadership, management and coaching to four PAs, bysupporting the team to take initiative and ownership of work,supervising performance, providing feedback to aid development, andnurturing a high-performing environment that supports wellbeing andresilience. In carrying out these responsibilities, a willingnessto undertake duties personally as required is needed.

2.      Direct PAsupport to one of two SPBDirectors.

3.      Supportingthe Head of Group Management to lead a thorough assessment of theGroup Management Services support needed by SPB and how it can bestbe provided over the next 3-4 years. This will include establishinga new service level agreement in consultation with the GMT andclarifying individual roles and objectives.

4.      Providingsecretariat to weekly GMT meetings and supporting Head of GroupManagement to plan the forward look ofagendas.

5.      Assistingin administering a range of important processes, includingperformance and talent management processes, day-to-day financematters, business continuity processes, and corporate initiatives.Ensuring these are delivered in a timely manner and that seniorcolleagues are kept regularly updated on progress.

6.      LeadingSPB group communications through oversight of regular corporateupdates at weekly group/team meetings and weekly Director emails.For example, notifying the group of upcoming group corporateevents, training opportunities, new joiners and leavers, HR andcompliance matters.

7.      Leading onSPB group operational requirements, including overseeing inductionsfor new joiners to the group, maintaining SPB’s intranet site,organising and collecting management information data for the groupto feed into wider group management strategy, and ensuring a rangeof administrative support is carried out by the GMSteam.
