By building a brand-new Synagogue, outstanding kosher dining options and a rich programme of events, we aim to support Jewish life in Brighton, across the spectrum and attract the Jewish community from all backgrounds to call Brighton and Hove their home.


The site includes both residential properties and commercial premises, located at 29-31 New Church Road, Hove. Alongside 45 residential units, the BNJC site comprises of Shoresh Nurseries; Novellino Brighton, a restaurant including a bakery and deli; Pro Fitness Gym, a Co-working space and events spaces. The site is shared with the Brighton and Hove Hebrew Congregation (BHHC) who operate the Synagogue and Mikvah.


About the role

We are seeking a motivated and organised Business Support Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our community hub, providing essential administrative support, and assisting with various business functions. Providing an excellent standard of customer service, the post-holder will be the first port of call for all incoming enquiries from our customers and community members including prospective holiday let guests and event attendees. The Business Support Officer will coordinate holiday let bookings; liaising with guests and working closely with our Facilities team to maintain the holiday let properties in order to provide an outstanding guest experience.


A key aspect of the Business Support Officer role is to proactively communicate with stakeholders across the site with the aim of streamlining administrative processes, improving consistency across the organisation, and enhancing organisational efficiency and effectiveness. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of People and Operations on team coordination, office management and customer service.


We are looking for an organised and confident administrator with excellent communication skills and exceptional attention to detail. Our ideal candidate would be happy working autonomously and have experience of supporting a busy and fast-paced team managing multiple different areas of operation. We are looking for someone who will anticipate need and suggest solutions to logistical challenges. You’ll need to be helpful and enthusiastic in your approach to work, flexible, a strong communicator and people oriented.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for BNJC, including monitoring and responding to phone calls and email enquiries, providing accurate information, filtering to the correct team member, following up on requests, capturing feedback and escalating complaints.
  • Monitor holiday let bookings through our new property management software, Hostaway ensuring strong communication with guests and the smooth running of the holiday let function.
  • Communicate regularly with the Facilities team on holiday let check ins and check outs, cleaning, maintenance, car park and key management.
  • Monitor the holiday let inventory (furniture, linen, household items) complete stock checks replenishing items as and when needed.
  • Coordinate regular team meetings and check-ins with various stakeholders across the site, supporting regular communication between the BNJC and Novellino Brighton teams in particular.
  • Work closely with the Novellino Brighton team on restaurant reservations for holiday let guests and all visitors to the site over Shabbat and Chaggim.
  • Work closely with the Events and Programming Officer to ensure all events and activities across the site are in the events calendar.
  • Support the IT function including the set-up maintenance of equipment, managing licenses and subscriptions.
  • Support the management of the BNJC office (House 3): stocking the kitchen, stationery
  • orders, printing.
  • Support the implementation of new projects and initiatives to enhance BNJC’s offer to the community.
  • Maintain compliance with GDPR regulations, ensuring the confidentiality and security of personal data.


Person specification

  • At least 2-3 years of successful administrative and/or business support experience working within a busy and fast-paced team.
  • Experience of communicating appropriately with a diverse range of stakeholders and providing a high standard of customer service over the phone and via email.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills which facilitate trust and positive relationships.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Highly proactive and able to anticipate need.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage your time, and proactively plan your workload in a busy environment with multiple demands
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT based systems and digital platforms such as Microsoft
  • Office, Slack, and CRM databases. You do not need to be an expert at any of these programmes, but you do need to feel comfortable learning new digital systems and platforms quickly.
