New Romney, United Kingdom Jacobs Full time
Your Impact:

At Jacobs, we'll inspire and empower you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed - today and into tomorrow. With more than 55,000 people in 40 countries, working at Jacobs offers an exciting range of opportunities to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team who always strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.

People are Jacobs' greatest asset, and we offer a competitive package to retain and attract the best talent. In addition to the benefits you'd expect, UK employees also receive free single medical cover and digital GP service, family friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave pay, free membership of employee assistance and parental programmes, plus reimbursement towards relevant professional development and memberships.

We also give back to our communities through our Collectively program which incorporates matched-funding, paid volunteering time and charitable donations.

Work-life balance and flexibility is a key focus area for Jacobs. We're happy to discuss hybrid, part-time and flexible working hours, patterns and locations to suit you and our business.

About the Opportunity

Since 1983 Dungeness B has generated low carbon electricity for 38.2 million homes and was the first Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor to begin construction in the UK. The station is now at a new phase in its life - defueling and decommissioning. This involves the safe removal of all spent fuel from the reactor core, the cooling ponds and stores whilst looking ahead and preparing for deconstruction. At a time of nuclear resurgence working for Jacobs at Dungeness B offers a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within an operational defueling environment whilst also looking ahead to future potential opportunities in nuclear new build or decommissioning and deconstruction.

Are you good at spinning plates?

It's not something you see very often on TV these days, but figuratively, it is a very useful skill, one of which is vital if your goal is to keep nuclear power stations operating safely, contributing to the UK's Net Zero carbon target, or to help prepare them for decommissioning. The UK's five operating stations deliver 16% of the UK's power, and it takes a large team delivering 100's of projects to enable these stations to continue generating as well as defuel the three stations that have ceased operation - and that's a lot of plates.

And this is where you come in

If you're familiar with project delivery, you'll know that they have plenty of moving parts and complexity, which is why you'll be working alongside our Subject Matter Experts, Operations Managers and with our Framework Service team too.

People are at the heart of everything we do

Centre to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations. You'll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client. Through your interactions, you'll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions.

You'll utilise your strong communication and engagement skills to achieve client, people and business outcomes, working with your team and peers that are based in different locations across the UK.

As well as focusing on the support to this framework, you'll get involved in other aspects of our high-performing business. We're continuously evolving and growing the business, so there's plenty of opportunity to evolve and grow your skills and career too.

We are currently looking for an experience Programme Manager to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Solutions team supporting our key Client EDF Nuclear Operations. This is a key role within our Project Management Resource team which is spread across our UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be part of a large client lead team and this role will support multiple projects within their UK wide project portfolio which may include existing generation, nuclear defueling, nuclear new build and/or nuclear decommissioning.
  • The Programme Manager will maintain the EDF standards of satisfaction, quality, and performance, and will oversee multiple project teams, ensuring program goals are reached within scope, schedule, budget and plan. This role has no direct reports.
  • The position will be based at the EDF Dungeness B location and will require occasional business travel to other UK sites. In this role you will report to the Jacobs Operations Manager but be accountable for project delivery directly to the client.
  • Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
  • Good communication and organisational skills are essential with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
  • You will have experience of dealing with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders.

Here's what you'll need:
  • Degree educated, ideally in engineering, business administration or related subject, with preferred Chartership.
  • Formal qualification or equivalent, such as MSP Practitioner or PgMPA PMP
  • You will be able to maintain alignment of the programme to agreed outcomes and success criteria and can initiate change control with the
  • Programme Director should the agreed outputs or success criteria be impacted by any programme changes.
  • We need a strong conflict manager with a firm and assertive approach.
  • You can demonstrate an understanding of Safety Cases, including how they are developed and implemented, relevant Health and Safety and
  • Environment legislation including CDM, and the actions required to achieve compliance.
