London, United Kingdom West London NHS Trust Full time

An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen for the role of Chief Nurse at West London NHS Trust.

The Chief Nurse is an Executive Director role, instrumental in shaping the development of the clinical strategy that will underpin the continued transformation of the Trust and for providing professional expert advice to the Chief Executive and Board of Directors.

This role exists to empower our clinical workforce to improve services, to equip them with the data, expertise and resources that they need and to hold them accountable for the quality of care they deliver. We want a Chief Nurse who will drive improvement and ensure that good practice is spread across the entirety of the organisation and with our partners. The ability to work as an equal partner alongside the Chief Medical Officer as the two clinical advisors to the Board will be vital to the success of the organisation.

We are working as part of a collaboration with Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust and Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, which reflects a change in the improvement philosophy in the NHS from competition to cooperation.

Main duties of the job

The Chief Nurse has responsibility for strategic planning, the delivery of quality governance and the continued improvement of quality across the organisation. The portfolio is broad covering professional leadership for the nursing, AHP and psychology workforce. It includes responsibility for clinical governance (quality, patient safety and experience), health and safety, emergency planning, co-production and partnership with service users and carers. The Chief Nurse is the Trust-wide Director of Infection Prevention and Control and lead for the vaccination programmes.

Clinical leadership responsibility is shared with the Chief Medical Officer. The two roles are expected to work closely together to ensure there is a consistent approach to clinical leadership and engagement across the organisation. There is shared responsibility for implementation of the Trust clinical strategy, Patient Safety Incident Framework and relationship management with our regulator.
