Deputy Chief Nurse - Strategic Leadership

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly experienced Deputy Chief Nurse to provide strategic leadership to the development and implementation of the Quality Improvement Strategy for the Trust. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Nurse and Medical Director to ensure continuous improvement in standards of patient care, safety, and patient experience.

The Deputy Chief Nurse will have delegated responsibility to deliver the patient safety, quality, and clinical governance portfolios of the Chief Nurse. This includes leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Trust's Nursing, Midwifery, and AHP strategy, ensuring nursing and midwifery practice is contemporary and in line with national guidance and best practice.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of improving quality, safety, and patient experience, with experience of working with the Care Quality Commission and leading complex change initiatives. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Chief Nurse and Medical Director to provide strategic leadership to the development and implementation of the Quality Improvement Strategy for the Trust.
  • Deliver the patient safety, quality, and clinical governance portfolios of the Chief Nurse.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Trust's Nursing, Midwifery, and AHP strategy.
  • Ensure nursing and midwifery practice is contemporary and in line with national guidance and best practice.

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse Degree in Nursing or equivalent.
  • Master's in nursing or related field.
  • Four years in a senior nursing management position in the NHS.
  • Experience of senior management for a defined portfolio at corporate level which includes clinical, financial, and people management.
