We have an exciting programme of international work, and we are looking for a hardworking and motivated team member to advise on the inclusion of Good Regulatory Practice (GRP) commitments in the UK�s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). This work is critical to promoting the adoption of international regulatory best practice overseas to promote a transparent and stable regulatory environment.�

Job description

The successful candidate will work to support the inclusion of Good Regulatory Practice (GRP) provisions in UK FTAs. Your responsibilities will include:��

Supporting the development of policy advice on good regulatory practice, including providing advice on the UK�s world leading Better Regulation Framework (BRF).��Representing HMG during live trade negotiations as a policy expert.��Working across DBT to develop and evolve UK negotiating positions on a range of complex issues.�Supporting the UK�s participation in regulatory cooperation committees, established as part of FTAs (including with Japan and the European Union).�Building trade capability within the wider smarter regulation directorate, and advising on the trade implications of any domestic policy developments to the UK�s better regulation framework.�

The role will require regular travel to London (if this is not your regular office location) and occasional working outside of normal working hours to support ongoing negotiations.�

Essential Criteria

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to persuade and influence others.�Experience of working collaboratively, including with range of partners�Able to compile, assimilate, distil, interpret and present evidence and options, drawing upon experts as appropriate.��Excellent programme management skills to deliver across various FTAs often simultaneously whilst not compromising on high quality advice.�

The successful candidate must be willing to apply for SC clearance due to negotiation sensitivities.��

Desirable Criteria�

Knowledge or experience of trade policy and/or negotiations (although successful candidates will receive training on the job)�Experience or an interest in international engagement and working with international partners.�
