About our Team

We are the Digital Inclusion and Accessibility Standards team. We are experts in creating accessible digital experiences and support hundreds of colleagues across HMRC who work with us to meet and surpass stringent quality standards. Because of our work citizens have access to government digital interactions without facing barriers which otherwise would exist. Our team draws on years of experience in Digital, Data and Technology with colleagues from a wide range of professional backgrounds and sectors.

About the Opportunity Overall

Working alongside several stakeholders from our product, portfolio, platform and delivery teams and will be able to quickly build credibility and influence others.

Developing creative solutions for ensuring that digital delivery teams meet their commitments to accessibility and track progress of work across the organisation to meet accessibility standards such as the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Job description

About the Role Day to day

Consulting to delivery teams. �Share your expertise �with your colleagues, to create accessible and inclusive services. Gaining a deep understanding of User Centred Design to feel comfortable talking about it to our customers. Apply AGILE and LEAN methods. Alongside supporting the ethos of the Government Service Standards, raising your team�s profile promoting our inclusive end-to-end services across HMRC and the public sector alike. Be a mentor and create great training. Four our various professions, whilst contributing to HMRC�s assurance approach to support the Government Service Standard with regards to accessibility and digital inclusion.Working closely with user research, design, and customer insight functions. Create and drive a deeper understanding of user needs, building the latest developments in practice relevant to accessibility and inclusion into our consulting practice.Maintain the relationships with internal/external stakeholders. Acting as a key contact, including attending regular meetings and developing key partnerships.

Essential Criteria

Can find and identify accessibility and digital inclusion issues and work with delivery teams to address the issues. Managing stakeholder expectations whilst using your knowledge and experience to provide simplified recommendations. Substantial experience delivering digital services through one or more phases of its lifecycle. Being a part of hosting or moderating difficult discussions within the team or with senior stakeholders. Being aware of flexibility and being proactive in your communication. �Demonstrating your up to date knowledge of the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, Equality Act 2010 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. You can understand and communicate how usability influences accessibility and the boundary between them. Easily articulating how to remove barriers across digital interactions, creating a collaborative, open and inclusive environment.

Desirable Criteria

Knowledge and experience of the government strategy around accessibility and digital inclusion within Government. �

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility GuidelinesDelivering services to the Government Service Standard

Benefits

Alongside your salary of �42,618, HM Revenue and Customs contributes �11,506 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

HMRC operates both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, allowing you to balance your work and personal commitments. We welcome applications from those who need to work a more flexible arrangement and will agree to requests where possible, considering our operational and customer service needs.

We offer a generous leave allowance, starting at 25 days and increasing by a day for every year of qualifying service up to a maximum of 30 days.
