Your role

The role of the Coordinator is at the heart of our team, managing the day-to-day work of Let's Talk Reading: running the office, supporting the Board of Trustees and volunteers, and working with partner organisations.

You will be involved in all aspects of running this small charity, with the main emphasis on day-to-day efficient operation, but also including strategy discussions, funding and finance, impact analysis and background research.

Your responsibilities

Work includes:

coordinating and working with a team of 20+ volunteers who visit and work with local early years settings, community organisations and schools, and run 3 parents’ and babies’ groups  supporting a Board of Trustees with 6+ members which meets 3 or 4 times per year, and supporting the Trustees to meet the requirements of the Charity Commission being the key contact point for the charity, linking with a number of partner organisations, including 40 early years settings and 30 local schools developing and maintaining the charity's website, and social media presence managing our stock of several thousand books and the distribution of those books to disadvantaged families across Ipswich assisting the Treasurer with best-value purchasing and funding bids.

We are looking for someone who:

is able to use their initiative, work independently and as a member of a team, following agreed objectives and priorities can manage a small office and organise their own time and priorities is an effective administrator, including agenda planning, minute taking, and managing financial information, and can be responsible for handling purchases for the charity is interested in child and adult learning, and passionate about reading, communication and children's books is confident with presentations and public speaking is confident in using technology, including managing and updating the website and social media, setting up Zoom meetings, carrying out research and keeping LTRs data and information up-to-date.

You will have excellent proven administration skills, including use of Office, basic financial management, the internet and web site updating. 

It is essential that you have good GCSEs in English and maths and preferably an appropriate degree level qualification.

About us

Let’s Talk Reading (LTR) is a registered Ipswich charity (CIO), which started 8 years ago and is now well-established and highly appreciated. The purpose of the charity is to eradicate low literacy in Ipswich, through focussing on reading and communication skills from birth to adulthood. 

We work with parents and children, early years settings, schools and partner charities across Ipswich, encouraging parents and children to read daily. We also offer support to adults who struggle to read via our ‘Let’s Read Ipswich’ team. More details about our work can be found at:

We are a team of about 60 volunteers who enjoy what we do and enjoy working together, giving away some 9,000 free books a year and benefitting over 11,000 local people. You will be a vital part of that team.

LTR is funded by a number of local and national charities, including Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk Community Foundation and the National Lottery.

You will be helping to achieve very positive outcomes for local disadvantaged communities with low literacy levels.

You will work directly with and be supported by the LTR Chair and a lead, very experienced, advisor. Training and support will be available. A laptop and mobile phone will be provided, along with mileage allowance when appropriate.

You will:

only need to work during term time, with the very occasional community event in the Summer or a weekend have a high degree of flexibility to work your 20 hours when it suits you and you can negotiate your mix of office and home working work in a friendly office at the Eastern Angles Centre with parking.
