Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Pembroke College Full time

Pembroke College is looking for a creative and proactive recent graduate who is hoping to embark on a digicomms career to join our ambitious team for the next year. The postholder will play a central role in digital communications, conceiving and producing high-quality content for use on our channels, contributing their own ideas for improvements, and getting involved across the range of our activities.

This is the seventh time we have offered a communications internship, which has proven to be successful and rewarding for both the college and previous post-holders who have gone on to careers such as film, marketing and cultural events promotion. It provides excellent opportunities for a recent graduate to hone their skills in a professional setting and to explore new areas of interest. The role can be tailored to support progression into a future career step.

The position is full-time (37 hours per week), for a fixed term of 13 months, starting on 2nd September or as soon after as possible.

Some evening or weekend working will be required, to monitor social media and provide support at special events. This will be arranged in advance and time off in lieu will be given to compensate.

The main duties will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Social media management: planning and producing content for our channels and posting regularly, with a view to increasing engagement and audience numbers; proposing new ideas and analysing our performance; monitoring mentions of our accounts and ensuring direct messages are responded to promptly. This will involve some out-of-hours working to monitor channels.
  2. Event promotion: following and refining existing systems to ensure that internal events are well promoted to College members and wider audiences as appropriate, using all relevant channels.
  3. Organising for photographs to be taken at events as requested by organisers or as needed for news reporting, including recruiting a bank of student photographers, organising assignments and ensuring payments are made each month.
  4. Website and intranet content production (with primary responsibility for news items and other items as required during the internship), as well as editing of the sites (which may be on behalf of other teams). Collaborate with colleagues across the College to uncover news items and pick up on leads which are supplied. Content can be commissioned or self-produced, as appropriate to the context, and training in editing will be provided.
  5. Email newsletter preparation, including weekly internal news and notices pieces in term time, regular alumni bulletins and other pieces as required. Templates are in place but there is always flexibility for improvements to be proposed.
  6. Annual review of website performance using template report to assess changes in statistics and suggest changes to drive further improvements; also regular feedback gathering on internal communications activities and reporting to the Communications Working Group (consultative and oversight committee) where required.
  7. Support the work of the OxNet access team, meeting regularly to review their communications needs, reporting on these to the comms team and ensuring that agreed activities are delivered.
  8. Contribute to the success of the comms team by providing support in priority areas throughout the year, including activities to celebrate the 400th Anniversary (such as our 400 Characters project), taking part in undergraduate open days, monitoring the team email inbox and ensuring messages are responded to promptly, updating College notice boards, and taking part in ideas generation and content production and distribution for ad hoc special campaigns during the year.

Benefits include a generous holiday allowance, membership of the University staff pension scheme, free meals on duty and a travel pass/cycle scheme. The college offers an Employee Assistance Programme to support the wellbeing of its staff members.

Deadline: 9am, 29 July 2024
