Ron Santiago de Cuba is a premium Cuban rum with decades of rum making heritage, produced by Corporación Cuba Ron and distributed by the joint venture created in 2019 between a European subsidiary of Diageo and Corporación Cuba Ron. The Justerini's & Brooks Rum team are accountable for the acceleration of this exciting brand in the UK and with distributor partners globally, which will strengthen Diageo's overall category presence in rum and create category growth opportunities with our customers.

Justerini & Brooks is a subsidiary business of Diageo GB. It was founded in 1749 and is the oldest continuously operating Wines & Spirits merchant in the UK. The Justerini & Brooks business comprises of a wine buying and brokering business, a trade team who sell wine & luxury spirits, private client sales, marketing and DComm teams... and now the Ron Santiago De Cuba joint venture.

Given that US sanctions regulations apply to Cuba and the need to ensure absolute compliance to these regulations, this creates a degree of complexity and special management of the brand within the Justerini & Brooks organisation. It is important to note that no "US person" will be considered for this role. "US person" is defined in the US sanctions regulations to include individuals who are citizens or residents of the United States, including any current "green card" holders.

About the role

This position will be reporting into the Global Senior Customer Marketing Manager with responsibility for new and developing markets ('tier 2') as well as responsibilities within the GB market.

There is the opportunity to craft the role and adapt responsibilities based on the candidates strengths, interests and development goals.

This role does work within the business rhythm, and process but also has freedom to define new ways of implementing and to work on creating promotional strategies, recognising that this is a new brand and therefore there are no right answers; finding ways to deliver performance through efficient execution is the aim.

Top accountabilities

  • Be the face of our brand to customers and distributors (as needed), selling a plan that is rooted in brilliant execution
  • This role will need to interact with most other functions within the business (sales, marketing, supply & finance) but also external stakeholders such as distributors, key customers and agencies
  • Support the Global Senior Customer Marketing Manager on priority markets (GB, Spain, Italy & Germany) and lead the management of Selected 'Tier 2' markets, working with distributors on their activation and brand building plans, marketing budget and quarterly business reviews
  • Support on GB market including the management of trade and consumer events
  • Build compelling customer propositions to take initiatives to customers / distributors across channels and markets
  • Lead the Point-of-Sale catalogue and ordering process globally
  • Ensure our marketing budget is used efficiently, driving the right Return on Investment, via strong measuring & evaluating of activities
  • Consolidate and share in-country standard process and lessons learned and lead the management of the yearly distributor conference
  • Support in building the relevant P&L and Commercial activity plan for designated areas of business this role looks after, as part of the annual planning process

About you:

  • A self-starter with high levels of resilience, agility & passion
  • Customer marketing or shopper marketing experience ideal
  • Advance presentation skills
  • Analytical ability & commercial skills
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work across multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to think creatively, distil key insights & frame a problem and solution in a coherent and comprehensive way and be fast and agile
  • Experience in the alcohol industry preferred but not mandatory
