Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Psychiatry as a a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Research Lead working 0.8FTE to join research programmes funded by the UK Medical Research Council and National Institute for Health and Care Research, developing mental health research, initially funded until the 31/03/2028 with funding for 0.6FTE already secured until 31/08/2029.

The University, along with its NHS partners including Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) and its academic partners across the UK, supports ongoing programmes to de-identify clinical data for use in research into the causes and consequences of mental health conditions, and conducts other avenues of mental health research. The PPI Lead will be a key link between these programmes and patients and the public, disseminating information widely about data-focused research, including the use of anonymised/de-identified NHS clinical data; seeking the views of patients and the public; and developing methods with local and potentially national applicability.

The PPI Lead will consult widely with patients and the public, seeking their views on information sharing and research, and will also be a source of information on how people might participate in face-to-face research. The post-holder will lead patient/public involvement across the Mental Health Theme of the NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre (hosted within the Department of Psychiatry) and across DATAMIND, the national Health Data Research UK Hub for mental health informatics research development. The remit of DATAMIND is around mental health data science and that of the Cambridge BRC MH Theme around translational mental health research.

The post-holder will lead, coordinate, and administer existing PPI groups for DATAMIND and the Cambridge BRC MH Theme, recruit additional contributors as required, and liaise with researchers across these programmes. The post-holder will be required to travel from time to time as part of ongoing engagement with other research/NHS centres, to learn from and to disseminate best practice.

The post-holder will be based in the Department of Psychiatry, will be supervised by Prof. Rudolf Cardinal, and will be expected to hold an honorary contract with CPFT (with support from CPFT's Research & Development Department).

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2028 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
