Roles and Responsibilities of a Concrete Making Good Operative

Surface Inspection and Assessment

  • Defect Identification: Examine concrete surfaces for imperfections such as cracks, voids, honeycombing, and spalling.
  • Assessment: Evaluate the extent and severity of concrete defects to determine appropriate repair methods.

Preparation of Work Area

  • Site Cleaning: Clear the work area of debris, dust, and other contaminants to ensure a clean working environment.
  • Protection Measures: Set up protective barriers and coverings to safeguard adjacent surfaces and structures.

Concrete Surface Preparation

  • Surface Cleaning: Use tools such as wire brushes, pressure washers, or sandblasters to clean concrete surfaces.
  • Roughening: Roughen smooth surfaces using mechanical methods to enhance the bond of repair materials.

Repair and Remediation

  • Crack Repair: Fill and seal cracks with appropriate materials, such as epoxy or polyurethane, to prevent further deterioration.
  • Patching: Prepare and apply repair materials, such as mortar or concrete, to patch holes and voids.
  • Reinforcement Repair: Replace or repair damaged reinforcing bars (rebar) and ensure they are properly covered with concrete.

Concrete Application and Finishing

  • Mixing: Prepare concrete mixes according to specified ratios, ensuring the correct consistency and quality.
  • Placement: Pour and place concrete in forms or molds, ensuring proper compaction to eliminate air pockets.

Documentation and Reporting
