British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for an Intelligence Development Officer on a full time, permanent contract. The role is paying £32,757.33 per annum, plus £3,033.56 London allowance per annum and will be based in London. This role offers a blended approach of home and office-working.

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast-paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As an Intelligence Development Officer you will be required to:

  • Analyse information, investigate, develop, plan and pursue the correct course of action to support operational information received, seeking a variety of sources to corroborate the information, identify relevant detail and build a comprehensive picture to make recommendations.
  • Maximise Intelligence opportunities in support of Force and Area priorities through the identification of intelligence, crime trends and patterns in a timely manner.
  • Support investigations in overt deployment to capture intelligence opportunities such as House Searches, Prison Intelligence Interviews, Intelligence interviews within police stations, observations or in conjunction with the Force Surveillance team to identify and maximise live time intelligence opportunities and assist in proactive investigations.
  • The post holder is expected to provide high quality, timely and innovative research, developing, creating and assisting in filling intelligence gaps. Works closely with departmental researchers/analysts and other internal/external agencies, in order to promote the collection and development of intelligence and information up to level 3, and in doing so contributes to Force Strategic and Tactical Tasking processes.

The successful Intelligence Development Officer will be required to evidence the following:

Qualifications and Training:

  • Full current UK Driving license and authorised to drive Police Vehicles.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working within law enforcement, but not essentially within intelligence.
  • Previous experience working within an investigative, covert or intelligence environment and knowledge of law enforcement techniques and practices.
  • Proven experience of working as part of a team and evidence of self-initiated investigations.
  • Experience of various intelligence systems and the handling of information.

Skills:

  • Communicates in a clear and concise manner, with the ability to present to large groups of people, (can range from 5 to 45) depending on the operation).
  • Good written communication skills, with the ability to prepare operational briefings to a high standard.
  • Computer literate with good IT skills. IT skills including Microsoft Office programs and other databases and systems.
  • The post holder will be able to liaise with internal and external contacts to establish and develop a two-way exchange of intelligence, information and analysis.

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of RIPA (Regulation Investigatory Powers Act 2000) and other intelligence legislation, stated cases and protocols.
  • National Intelligence Model (NIM) and Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act (CPIA) 1996.
  • Good awareness of the Data Protection Act 1998, Management of Police Information (MOPI) and College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice on Intelligence Management and Covert Policing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Police National Database and user requirements.

Additional Information

This is a demanding role, there is an expectation that time is spent "in the field" and often working alone. There is a requirement to work flexible hours, sometimes evenings, weekends and throughout the night. There could be a requirement to work away from home.

The post holder will be required to undertake several training courses applicable to the role. Some of which will be residential.
