About the job

The holder of this post is responsible for attending track calls to attend unit failures in an attempt to get the unit back into service or relevant depot with the minimum amount of lost time. The holder of this post will also be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, repair and overhaul of traction units, components and equipment in accordance with South West Trains specifications as required. You will adhere to depot protection, safety, quality and environmental procedures, rules and regulations in force.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Attend track calls
  • Repair defect where possible
  • Liaise with Wessex Integrated Control Centre (WICC)
  • Compile formal reports detailing post incident / failure
  • Provide Fleet Fitter cover at outstations during major events
  • Review IT systems for defects and pro-actively monitor train defects and fix where appropriate
  • Liaise with Station staff when necessary
  • Obtain, use and care for and return all tools and equipment used
  • Work effectively as part of a team
  • Cover incident response turns at Waterloo
  • Actively participate in the reporting of and logging of near misses.
  • Liaise with Wessex Integrated Control Centre (WICC), station and depot staff when necessary.
  • Undertake additional training to ensure business needs are met, as specified by their line manager.
  • When requested you will carryout any MB3 work at any depot within the Fleet production London Area.
  • Additional tasks as specified by local manager / supervisor.
  • Principle accountabilities may differ from depot to depot and you will be required to sign the job description acknowledgement sheet.

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Appropriate electrical engineering qualifications essential.
  • Proven experience of working in a rail or a related industry.
  • Good written, oral communication, numeric and IT skills.
  • Good understanding of the routes covered by the SWR franchise.
  • Knowledge of depot maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of company procedures and policies.
  • Understanding of safety legislation and quality procedures.
  • Ability to analyse and interrogate data.
  • Considers the impact of business change on all risks.
  • Understands and reports close calls.

Working pattern

Working an average of 37 hours per week over 3.5 days

Days
Nights

Rotating 5 week roster.
