Purpose of the Job:

Support the Senior Manager in engaging and managing Ki's capital partners from a partner relations and portfolio management perspective. Create, manage and enhance processes that allow partners to gain the insight they require to understand and profitably manage their portfolio(s).

Create effective feedback loops between partners' short and long term requirements and Ki's underwriting and technology capabilities, using this to help shape development and capability prioritisation within Ki.

Through the development of strong relations with Ki's partners, identify and enact upon opportunities to further strengthen Ki's proposition and/or product suite through shared knowledge & expertise across the partner panel.

Working with the wider team within Ki, provide recommendations and challenge where necessary to ensure Ki meets its underwriting objectives on behalf of capital partners. In particular achievement against plan, line size deployment, Nominated Syndicate selection, and underwriting appetite and performance. Be able to effectively articulate trends and drivers of favourable/adverse performance versus plan as well as formulate remediation strategies with partners.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Lead the engagement with Ki's partners, developing effective working relationships with capital partners based on trust and in line with Ki's values
  • Monitor the partner portfolio against the target portfolio, working with Ki Portfolio Underwriting and capital partners to implement actions to ensure the portfolio tracks the target portfolio
  • Support capital partner engagement within Portfolio Underwriting, setting and delivering against agreed objectives
  • Create processes/frameworks that allow Ki to effectively communicate capital partner(s) portfolios. Enhance such frameworks and ensure the structure for servicing partners within Ki continues to be effective as the capital partner based grows
  • Communicate underwriting appetite between Ki and capital partners, ensuring underwriting appetite remains up to date based on the latest trends at Ki and within the wider market via regular reviews
  • Recognise when early intervention or escalation is necessary, reporting any changes or deviations from the portfolio plan, with full justification, to management, the Underwriting Committee and capital partners where appropriate
  • Identify and effectively articulate trends and drivers of favourable/adverse performance versus plan to partners. Work with partners to formulate remediation strategies to ensure appropriate changes are made to deliver future plan performance
  • Prepare materials for capital partners and Ki as required
  • Monitor claims and market environment to ensure Ki are continuing to target the most profitable business and staying abreast of changing market conditions
  • Oversee the monitoring of broker behaviour for signs of anti-selection and market dynamics, ensuring effective feedback loops are in place to mitigate anti-selection
  • Communicate changes requested/required by capital partners to the Product and Algorithmic Underwriting teams, helping drive improvements in Ki's algorithmic approach and improve the value proposition for capital partners
  • Assist the Head of Portfolio Management and Head of Outwards Reinsurance with developing business plans and reinsurance strategies for all product lines and partners within the portfolio; and thereafter implementing such approved plans, maintaining or setting up relevant control mechanisms in line with Ki standards to ensure performance is measurable against said plans
  • Assist the Head of Portfolio Management with new Class, product or market assessment and approval
  • Provide support to the Portfolio Management and ORI team in the deliver of wider strategic priorities for Ki where required

Education, Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Strong commercial general insurance Lloyd's/company market experience
  • Strong analytic skills: qualified actuary OR significant experience in technical underwriting
  • Degree in a numerate subject preferred
  • Have a strong grasp of actuarial, aggregation and/or portfolio management techniques to enhance the analytic capabilities of the portfolio management team
  • Effective communication of analytical results to diverse personnel within Ki
  • Ability to lead projects and manage the future pipeline of work
  • Any of the following are desirable:
    • Experience working in agile environments
    • Understanding of data science approaches
    • Aggregate monitoring experience/knowledge
