Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

We are looking to appoint a Research Assistant in the Design Bioethics Lab located within the Neuroscience, Ethics and Society (NEUROSEC) Team in the Department of Psychiatry. Led by Professor Ilina Singh, the NEUROSEC Team has an international reputation for its work in neuroscience ethics and psychiatric ethics and is uniquely situated within Oxford Psychiatry and Neuroscience, building collaborative research relationships with scientists, clinicians and public stakeholders, whilst maintaining a critical perspective and a portfolio of independent research projects. The post is based in the Department of Psychiatry and is full-time, although consideration will be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 80% FTE) on a pro rata basis with appropriate adjustment of duties.

The post is for a fixed term (funded for 18 months with the possibility of an extension).

The University has introduced a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,500 a year (pro rata) for all staff on grades 1–10 of the main salary and grading structure which will be implemented in the September 2024 payroll.

You will be joining the Design Bioethics Lab (DBL). The DBL is based on a novel framework intended to support theoretical rigour and systematic, scalable research in empirical bioethics (see publication). Current projects in the DBL are focused on developing a set of digital and dialogical tools to enable identification and investigation of value disagreements around the question: What do we owe future generations? Within this, we are particularly interested in issues related to climate change and/or environmental ethics. As with most of the work in the NEUROSEC Team, our DBL projects are focused on young people and will be co-designed with members of the NeurOX Young People's Advisory Group.

You will be required to manage your own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by senior colleagues. You will also be expected to contribute to wider project planning and organisation, including ideas for new research projects and to the design of research protocols

You should hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant subject such as psychology, bioethics, geography or a relevant empirical social science discipline, along with experience of major contributions to, or leading successful execution of, an empirical research project in a relevant area of study, With demonstrated skills in the use of systematic approaches to literature reviewing you should be able to use current and emerging AI-platforms to facilitate rapid and comprehensive reviewing. A masters degree would be desirable as would knowledge of literature at the intersection of mental health and climate change, and/or environmental ethics.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement, a CV, and details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for this post is 12.00 midday 10th September 2024

£32,332 to £38,205 per annum (discretionary range to £41,732 per annum). Grade 8
