Working within the Physical Security and Fire team, the Head of Projects has a critical role in supporting the growth of the ScottishPower businesses. You'll be responsible for leading and developing a multi-disciplined team to deliver Capital investment Security and Fire projects across the ScottishPower estate. The role will include being responsible for the delivery of large complex major projects, such as Critical National infrastructure sites, for both the Networks and Renewables (Onshore and Offshore) businesses.

What you'll be doing

The Head of Projects will ensure that project delivery timescales are met, in accordance with the business plan, and the team of programme unit managers and project managers are assigned to projects in line with the value streams and project taskforce model. The Head of Projects will also be responsible for liaising/co-ordinating with the Head of Technical and Head of Physical Security to ensure that the necessary technical input is provided in line with project requirements.

You'll manage and coordinate Project Management resources across multi disciplines aligning with technology value streams and project taskforce models to support the Project Delivery requirements and UK business growth targets.

You'll provide strategy and direction to the project teams to meet the objectives of the capital delivery plan, actively promoting and managing positive H&S behaviours and competencies, as well as, acting as coach/mentor to staff; fostering open communication across teams and support cross-functional collaboration, developing, driving and coordinating training activities.

As part of the Corporate Security leadership team, your role will be to provide, develop and implement strategies for optimising the UK project management resource to meet planned growth targets. This involves, managing the production of the invitation to tender packs, supporting site installation and commissioning of new projects, managing multiple high value programme critical electrical and C&I interfaces on sites ,ensuring that interface issues with free issue components are proactively managed.

In addition to this, you'll manage and approve all capital investment due diligence reports in support of the investment cases, and contribute to the identification & management of project management risks, issues & impacts.

You'll get involved in the following

  • Management of a team of 30+ people
  • Accountable for the design and efficiency savings of capital projects, in of up to £40M p.a, covering c. 400 separate projects p.a.
  • Adjust workload and priorities, ensuring that budgets and programmes are achieved.
  • Lead on the regulatory compliance, environmental compliance, and health and safety of all capital projects, including all necessary internal policy and governance to ensure external compliance with UK legislation.
  • Lead interface with the International Security on the development and delivery of offshore renewable projects to ensure fire and security and system designs are consistent with Iberdrola's strategy.
  • Independently and constructively challenge senior leaders and peers where appropriate, to achieve engagement on projects and drive implementation.
  • Lead interface for negotiating large, multi-disciplined complex contracts.
  • Lead interface with audit, risk and governance functions to ensure fire systems and physical security systems have been designed and commissioned effectively throughout the group.
  • Lead ScottishPower interface with Government security agencies and the Regulator in respect of compliance with critical national infrastructure and NIS requirements.
  • Accountable for the development of emergency procedures in areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work in a matrix managed environment, as part of the Corporate Security UK team.

What you'll bring

  • Degree educated in an engineering discipline
  • Significant demonstrable experience of providing lead contract and project management resources within the Security, Utility or other Heavy Engineering Industries
  • Experience of operating within a largescale industrial capital project environment
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplined project teams
  • Strong ability to manage own performance with focus on delivery, within a varied and challenging workload whilst producing high quality results
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety Principles and their application in the delivery of largescale projects.
  • Proven track-record of delivering complex multi-discipline projects with a history of contract negotiation and contract management.
