Job Overview

Collaborating closely with the College Head of Finance and the College Director of Professional Services, you will spearhead the creation and implementation of financial initiatives across the College, ensuring optimal value for all expenditures.

Your role will encompass leading and delivering a comprehensive, effective, and efficient financial management service, providing governance, support, and strategic direction.

As a senior leader, you will guarantee that a professional, strategic, and solution-oriented finance service is provided, aligning with the College's overarching strategy.

Key Responsibilities 1.

Provide leadership and direction to the College Finance Projects Team, developing and supervising detailed business plans and initiatives to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.

Establish and integrate quality and performance benchmarks within the team to enhance individual capabilities, ensuring the delivery of a consistent and effective financial project team that adds value across the College.

Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, fostering ownership and accountability to elevate service delivery, financial awareness, and governance.

Work in close partnership with the Head of College, Deputy Head of College, College Head of Professional Services, and College Head of Finance to provide expert financial analysis that supports decision-making and the development of College strategy.

This includes sourcing, analyzing, and evaluating financial data from across the College/University, using insights to draw conclusions and formulate recommendations.

Present findings and recommendations to inform strategic decision-making at various management groups and to external stakeholders.

Oversee and lead project initiatives within the College Finance team as directed by senior leadership.

This involves leading projects that engage internal teams and external advisors to execute strategic College-wide initiatives related to process enhancement and the implementation of the University strategy.

Actively engage in project meetings and working groups, providing specialized financial support and advice to project boards as necessary, preparing comprehensive business cases and analyses for senior management, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of reports.

6.

Guide the Finance Projects team in the development and maintenance of cost recovery models for Research Facilities.

Provide effective leadership in creating and overseeing financial models, maintaining robust financial data, and producing management information for senior leadership, including identifying strategic action plans to ensure return on investment.

Proactively identify and mitigate significant strategic financial risks associated with Research Facilities.

Establish a framework for the annual review and maintenance of cost recovery models to ensure alignment with College objectives.

Support and manage the College Capital plans.

Collaborate closely with the College Head of Facilities and College Estates Business Partner to ensure Capital plans are regularly completed and maintained.

Provide financial oversight on costings and data to present robust financial management information to senior leaders, identifying strategic action plans to ensure return on investment.

8.

Participate fully in activities that support the University-wide finance community, ensuring best practices, policies, and procedures are consistently applied to meet financial controls and compliance.

9. Act as a deputy for the College Head of Finance as necessary and undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Essential Knowledge/Qualifications A1 Demonstrated strategic competencies necessary for this level of position, with professional knowledge and leadership experience in relevant disciplines, including membership in a recognized CCAB accounting professional body. A2 Strong evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to the role. A3 Comprehensive understanding of strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting. Desirable B1 Post-graduate qualification in a relevant field. B2 Familiarity with financial governance and regulations in the Higher Education sector. Essential Skills C1 Exceptional leadership and management abilities. C2 High-level influencing and interpersonal skills, capable of quickly establishing credibility and delivering impact at all levels. C3 Ability to foster accountability for results and actions. C4 Strategic thinker with the capability to develop and implement effective strategies and policies. C5 Ability to drive change in alignment with strategic and operational objectives. C6 Capacity to constructively challenge the status quo and influence change based on sound professional judgment. C7 Strong commercial awareness with a clear understanding of key business drivers. C8 Well-developed report writing and presentation skills, capable of translating complex financial information for non-financial and senior colleagues. C9 Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions and resolve conflicts. C10 Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands. C11 Advanced proficiency in industry-standard financial and accounting software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Essential Experience E1 Extensive post-qualification project accounting experience, preferably within the Higher Education sector. E2 Demonstrated experience of influencing across all organizational levels, including senior management in complex environments. E3 Proven experience in building robust business cases and presenting them at board level. E4 Experience as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, providing financial leadership and support. E5 Successful contribution to continuous financial process improvement and operational efficiencies. E6 Experience in developing innovative solutions for strategic change. E7 Proven project management experience, providing leadership and delivering against objectives and timelines. Terms and Conditions Salary will be Grade 9, £57,696 - £64,914 per annum.

This position is full-time and open-ended. Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
