As part of our continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced Education Support Workers who will fulfil a complementary role to that of the teaching and learning team to support and promote the social, emotional, and educational curriculum of pupils and young people (aged within our setting.

  • Oakham Shires, Oakham, Rutland LE15 6LB
  • £18,500.00 per annum
  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.00am to 3.30pm
  • Permanent; Term Time only

Essential:

  • GCSE Maths & English
  • UK Driving licence - we require this as our pupils often have days out into the local area, this will allow you to make sure they are experiencing fulfilling days out and activities

About the role

The Education Support Worker will work in the classroom, supporting pupils' wellbeing and assisting them to achieve their EHCP outcomes.

Key responsibilities would include:

  • To compliment the delivery of the school curriculum.
  • To provide pastoral support to students in order that they can successfully access their school placement on a day-to-day basis.
  • To support students to meet the annual targets of their EHCP.
  • To liaise with clinical, teaching and support staff to share strategies for support.
  • To participate in the development and/or review of all support documentation including risk assessments, individual learning plans and opportunity plans.
  • To ensure necessary record keeping is maintained and where required to assist in the preparation of routine reports.
  • Be physically fit and energetic.
  • To provide absence cover for the class teaching support as and when required.
  • Be resilient. This role is very rewarding but does not come without its challenges.
  • Be passionate about changing the lives of young people with Learning Disabilities and Autism.
  • Be able to demonstrate empathy and patience.

You will be educated to GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English and ideally you will have experience of supporting autistic teenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals; you will play a pivotal role in working with our pupils to meet their Education Health Care Plan outcomes empowering and equipping them with the tools they need to be happy, healthy and make their way in the world. Applicants must have a full, clean manual UK Driving Licence and be prepared to drive school vehicles as and when required.

About the school

Oakham Shires School is an Independent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic and have associated diagnosis and special education needs. The school delivers a primary curriculum to secondary aged pupils who have struggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational setting and are, as a result, working below age expected stage. Pupils are taught in small class groups of 4 -5 with a high staff to pupil ratio. Pupils are supported to achieve their Outcomes within their Education Health Care Plan, develop life skills and achieve accreditations in Maths, English and Science.

For over 16 years Options Autism have provided care and education to pupils, young people and adults with autism, complex needs and learning difficulties.
