Health Policy Officer

£35,813 pa plus excellent benefits

London WC1 and home-based

35 hours per week, full-time

As Health Policy Officer you will coordinate and support the College's growing health services policy portfolio and assist with delivering a range of child health policy projects and activities, which will ensure that the RCPCH continues to lead the way in children's health.

The Health Policy Officer is a crucial role for the College as you will be required to analyse complex information, using this to inform policy development and outputs.

Reporting to the Policy Manager (Health Services), you will support and develop briefings on child health and health services policy through desk-based research, analysis and a range of written and verbal outputs. You will also support clinical engagement within the policy development process to ensure appropriate representation and consensus on final outputs.

Building and managing positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure new opportunities for the College to advocate and influence policy are determined, whilst also attending, contributing to and reporting back on relevant conferences, seminars, meetings and policy events both internally and externally.

You will also provide knowledge and advice on issues related to health services to inform internal colleagues, including senior management, across the policy, workforce, education and training, media, campaigns and public affairs teams, to maximise the influence and impact of the College's health policy outputs.

Suitably qualified at graduate or master's level or with relevant professional experience, you will have experience of policy development evidenced by recent policy outputs relating to health services in the UK, children's health or the health workforce. You should also have a good working knowledge of health policy and health services.

You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, being able to demonstrate an ability to motivate, influence and gain the support of others and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships. You should also have experience of working with a broad range of senior stakeholders to take forward programmes of work.

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, along with demonstrating the ability to understand and discuss complex issues and the ability to work autonomously, are essential.

A formal project management qualification and a good working knowledge of child health or mental health services, health inequalities, or the children's health workforce in the UK are desirable.

The RCPCH sets and maintains standards for the education and training of all doctors working in paediatrics and child health in the UK. We advocate on child health issues at home and internationally. Additionally, through a variety of activities, the College influences the quality of medical practice for children in hospital and in the community.

The RCPCH has more than 23,000 members and fellows and employs around 200 staff, most of whom work in our London office in Holborn. We have a Devolved Nations team operating from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Our College values: Include, Influence, Innovate and Lead, are important to us. These values ensure we bring out the best in each other, strive forward together to make the College a positive and dynamic place to work.

The RCPCH wants to represent all the communities we serve. Appointment will be made solely on merit. However, the College is particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, and/or candidates with a disability who are currently under-represented at this level of the organisation.

The College operates a flexible and modern working policy, whereby our colleagues work in the office for a minimum of 40% over a 4 week cycle and the remainder from home.

Closing date: 21 August 2024.
