Their Business Development team plays a crucial role in the company's growth strategy, advising on the selection and design of new schemes to mobilize private sector investment and address barriers to achieving Net Zero.nThe team also advises the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board on the risks and opportunities associated with new delivery body roles. Created to expand the company's ability to deliver new schemes, the team focuses on areas like transport, energy storage, and sustainable aviation fuels, among others.

Role Summary:nThis high-profile role is responsible for leading the growth arm of the business. Reporting to the Head of Policy, Regulation & Development within the Strategy & Development Directorate, the role involves close collaboration with the Policy & Strategy teams.nThe role includes:nConducting long-term horizon scanning of the commercial and policy debate in relevant energy sectors to identify key developments and growth areas.nWorking with government, industry, the policy team, and other stakeholders to develop schemes from inception to board approval.nAssessing the strategic and operational impact of potential new schemes and providing clear recommendations and risk assessments to the board and SLT.nLeading process improvement initiatives regarding internal governance and sign-off procedures.nSupporting the development of the business and corporate strategy from a business development perspective.nDeveloping and implementing a tailored business development strategy.nBuilding corporate knowledge in new scheme areas.

Key Responsibilities:nAs Business Development Manager, you will:nOversee and sometimes lead all necessary assessments for SLT and Board approvals for new potential delivery body roles.nDrive improvement initiatives in the current impact assessment and governance process.nCommunicate complex information to the wider team to ensure broader capability development.nDevelop and manage relationships with government policymakers, public sector stakeholders, and industry partners.nDevelop and manage relationships with internal colleagues to ensure comprehensive strategic and operational impact assessments.nConduct long-term horizon scanning of energy and related sectors to identify business opportunities.nDevelop understanding and knowledge of new market developments and provide briefings to the business as appropriate.

Experience/Skills Required for the Role:nEssential:nAt least 5 years of experience in strategic and operational impact assessments for major investments or initiatives.nProven ability to deliver and manage projects to time, cost, and quality with appropriate controls and governance.nCapability to manage a fast-paced pipeline of opportunities with multiple deadlines.nAdvanced communication skills, able to effectively convey complex ideas to senior leaders.nAbility to influence and build positive working relationships across different teams and organizations.nActive listening skills to understand concerns and incorporate diverse viewpoints.nWell-developed qualitative and quantitative research skills for sound judgment.nExperience working with a range of stakeholders, ideally within the public and utilities sector.nExperience managing and leading a high-performing team.

Desirable:nKnowledge or experience with Net Zero investment challenges.nFamiliarity with relevant government policies impacting the electricity and decarbonization sectors.nClient-facing or consultancy experience.nExperience working with government or regulators.nProven track record of leading and managing successful teams.
