Our client, based in Southampton is looking for a Port Agent to join their team on a 6 month fixed term contract.

As a Port Agent, you will represent the interests of the shipowner or charterer (the Principal), while the ship is in port by providing assistance and/or advice as required. The Port Agent is responsible to the Principal for arranging, together with the port, a berth, all relevant port and husbandry services, tending to the requirements of the Master and crew, clearing the ship with the port and other authorities (including preparation and submission of appropriate documentation) along with releasing or receiving cargo on behalf of the Principal, ensuring that all appropriate legislations and regulations are observed.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTnIdeal candidates will have a cruise background or previous port agency experiencenFull UK drivers licence is required. Please note: there will be travel involved within this role to locations such as Portsmouth, Dover, Poole and London.nExcellent communication skills, both written and oralnWillingness to work overtime (evenings, weekends and during peak periods)

JOB DESCRIPTIONnAchievement of written objectives as agreed with the Agency Manager.nBook vessels in and out of the port, and arranging the pilot and tug boat servicesnProvide information on the crew and any passengers to the local immigration authoritiesnEnsure the ship’s documentation complies with international regulations prior to Customs inspectionnPrepare quarantine pre-arrival report (QPAR) which provides details on the crew, the ship’s previous route and any deaths or illnesses which may have occurred during the voyagenAdvise Customs of the ship’s arrival and report the cargo on boardnLogistics involved with provisions and fuelnProvide stevedore’s /ship planner with the manifest which gives detailed information on the cargo to be handlednLiaise with stevedores and terminal operators regarding the safe handling of containers, break-bulk and bulk liquids, and ensuring that the ship’s master is aware of shore requirementsnOrganise crew changes, any associated immigration documentation and arrangements such as booking transportation and accommodation.nOrganise and provide Cash to Master.nHandle ship services including repairs and maintenance.nCarry out the instructions of ship’s Masters, Owners and Principals within the bounds of normal agency practice.nVisit vessels in port under the control of the Department.nProvide professional advice and support to existing and potential customers.nPrepare Operational Reports.nPrepare Disbursement AccountsnPrepare Financial Voyage call Reports for Principles as required.nMaintain high standards of professional and technical knowledge through training, teamwork, and an awareness of market developments.nComply with the Company’s trading standard terms and conditions, including agreed accounting and credit control processes.nPromptly report any Health & Safety concerns that you may have to your Branch Manager or Operations Supervisor.nTake appropriate action on any Health & Safety issues reported with due regard to the urgency and risk presented ensuring compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety policy.nComply with the Company’s information systems and management systems policies.
