Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is seeking candidates for the role of Land Manager within our highly experienced Land & Property Management Team based in Edinburgh. As Land Manager, you will be working in a team of property professionals, delivering land and property management advice and support to colleagues across HES in respect of our 336 properties in care, commercial property, ancillary property, offices, depots and residential properties. This is a hugely varied and interesting post, working for the lead body for Scotland’s historic environment, a charity dedicated to the advancement of heritage, culture, education and environmental protection. Site visits to our wonderful heritage properties across Scotland is an essential part of the job which makes this role unique and so rewarding.


About the role

The Land & Property Management Team is based in Longmore House in Edinburgh, headed up by our Principal Land Manager, and this post has responsibility for the management of 2 Assistant Land Managers. You will be working to provide support and guidance on land and property management matters to colleagues across the Organisation, and liaising with external bodies and individuals such as landowners and their agents, solicitors, government and local authority departments etc. The work of the Team is extremely varied and includes researching deed obligations and responsibilities, undertaking rent reviews, lease renewals, access rights, landlord and tenant responsibilities, agricultural matters, valuation, acquisition and disposal of property, rates/council tax payments, rents income and expenditure and memorial benches/burial requests & scattering of ashes requests.


About you

We are seeking a motivated, driven and engaging land and property professional with a strong work and team ethic, and excellent knowledge of land and property management. A relevant degree level qualification in a discipline relating to rural land and property management is essential, as well as RICS membership with at least 2 years post qualification experience. A full driving licence is required as travel is essential, overnight at times.
