Capenhurst, United Kingdom URENCO UK Ltd Full time
Lead Auditor
Help us to make a world of difference
Urenco offers a rare expertise in enriching uranium for the civil nuclear industry. In fact, we are the only company with the capability to do this at four sites across the world.
As a global leader in the production of low carbon energy, we work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.
This transformational vision opens up unique and exciting opportunities to build a dynamic, energising, and rewarding career.
And right now, we’re looking for a Lead Auditor. Based at our Capenhurst site, you will be instrumental in implementing our assurance programme, which is designed to confirm the adequacy and effective implementation of the Integrated Management System. This system is essential for managing and controlling risks, and your work will help build a comprehensive understanding of the overall risk landscape at Capenhurst. Your insights will provide risk-informed information to individuals at all levels of the site, from the Senior Management Team to functional and departmental managers, to support decision-making and prioritisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit Delivery: Conduct audits in alignment with the Capenhurst assurance programme.
Audit Analysis: Review audit findings, group actions, and identify recurring themes to support the development of comprehensive solutions.
Action Tracking: Monitor and track the progress of actions arising from inspections and audits, coordinating with Business Unit or Shared Service representatives to ensure timely completion.
Audit Reporting: Analyse and report on the outcomes of audits, inspections, and self-verification programmes to develop a risk-informed view of compliance, contributing to broader improvement initiatives.
Integration with Assurance Activities: Collaborate effectively with the Independent Oversight function to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive approach to site assurance.
Safety Culture: Actively promote and reinforce a strong safety culture, ensuring that compliance aligns with the highest safety standards
What Will Your Day Look Like?
Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with the Risk Specialist and Organisational Learning Specialist to assess current findings, ongoing actions, and associated risks.
Assurance Programme: Operate within the site assurance framework, ensuring a coordinated, prioritised, and integrated approach across Capenhurst.
Team Contribution: As a member of the Risk and Audit Team, actively contribute ideas and efforts towards improving workflows and the overall working environment.
Mentorship and Coaching: Act as a coach and mentor in Assurance activities, guiding and supporting colleagues across the site. Assist business units in defining, developing, and implementing their self-verification programmes.
What Do You Need to Excel in This Role?
Education & Experience: A STEM-related degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
Qualifications: ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification.
Certifications: Chartered status with a professional institute, such as the International Register of Certificated Auditors or the Institute of Risk Management.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in MS Word and other Microsoft Office applications.
Auditing Expertise: Experience in leading audits within complex organisations, including leading external ISO audits.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proven track record of identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing effective solutions.
Industry Background: Experience in nuclear, COMAH, or other high-hazard industries, with in-depth knowledge of management systems and relevant ISO standards.
Site-Specific Knowledge: Understanding the specific hazards and risks associated with operations at Capenhurst.
Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the legislative landscape relevant to Capenhurst, with an understanding of regulatory approaches to inspection and engagement.
Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated experience in managing and engaging stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
What can you expect from us?
More than just a job, we offer a future. More than just a place to work, we provide an opportunity to prosper. Urenco powers the possibilities that let you make the most of your day to day – and shape your own tomorrow.
We reward your contribution with industry-leading pay – and that's just the start.
An exceptional range of physical and mental wellbeing, financial, and lifestyle benefits flex around the things you find most important in life. Like the idea of travelling overseas? We can make that happen too. And our annual global awards bring us together to celebrate our outstanding work achievements.
We’re well aware that being the best company possible starts with helping you become the best you can be in your career.
We’re also committed to helping you achieve work-life balance. So you can count on us to deliver the personal development resources you need to gain new qualifications, learn new skills, and open new possibilities.
Annual leave starting at 25 days, which increases by one day for every two years of service up to a maximum of 30 days. In addition, you will be able to accrue 13 additional days off to be used flexibly.
A diverse range of family friendly policies.
A generous bonus scheme.
A defined contribution pension scheme; with up to 16% employer’s contribution.
Flexible benefits package; including life assurance and income protection. In addition, you’ll have an opportunity to purchase additional benefits that suit your lifestyle and take advantage of tax and NI savings.
Education and training; we take pride in helping people learn and develop by supporting, accelerating and directing your learning. As well as the completion of mandatory health and safety courses, training packages will be offered to meet your specific needs.
Please be aware that this role is subject to security clearance, medical, drug and alcohol testing prior to start.
