About Network & Acquiring Solutions

As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the Network & Acquirer Solutions (NAS) team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide. We are driving a strategic, multi-year Enterprise Payments program to bring all payments together into a center of excellence to drive operational excellence for payment execution, enable innovative payment products, services, and capabilities to be built effectively and efficiently, support our BU strategies more closely, and deliver on our customers' evolving payment needs.

About the Role

The role of Director, Enterprise Payments Product Development is an exciting opportunity for a talented product leader to drive modernization and development of new payment capabilities. The incumbent will be an integral leader within a large scale, enterprise-wide program established to accelerate the development of our enterprise payment services and redesign the operating model surrounding it to drive excellence in payment execution. Reporting to the VP of Enterprise Payments Product Development, this role will help to reshape and transform how payment products are built and delivered at American Express. The Director, Enterprise Payments Product Development will lead a team of talented product managers and collaborate with engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to bring the product vision to life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of product owners focused on flawless execution and delivery against stated goals. Domain areas of focus can span identity and bank account verification solutions, money movement through a bank network, and Bill Pay.
  • Collaborate with Product Management teams to translate product strategies and roadmaps into technical capabilities and actionable delivery plans.
  • Develop and syndicate capability release plans with key stakeholders, e.g., Product Management, Engineering, Operations, business owners, market teams, etc.
  • Lead the discovery and envisioning of new payment flows and bank integration capabilities that power key customer journeys across American Express.
  • Drive the definition and refinement of capabilities, features, user stories and associated success criteria.
  • Define market specific platform requirements for inclusions in global platforms and market expansion release plans.
  • Develop the delivery strategy for modernization, establishing a playbook for enablement expansion and scaling of modern payment capabilities across the globe.
  • Prioritize work across multiple scrum teams and sequence delivery of new payment capabilities and bank integrations across competing business priorities.
  • Monitor and assess delivery and performance metrics to identify opportunities to improve delivery predictability, time to market, delivery of iterative value to the business or to make enhancements.
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure clear communication, understanding, and alignment on product goals and progress against them.
  • Foster a collaborative culture within the organization focused on delivery excellence and doing it the right way.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Relevant experience: Minimum of 7 years' experience in Product Development, Capability Delivery, agile practices, and scaled product delivery.
  • Payments expertise: Passion for payments and the advancement in technologies driving innovation in the payments ecosystem. Knowledge of Bill Pay capabilities and/or A2A money movement (ACH, wires, RTP, etc.) a plus.
  • Passion for results: Passion to drive execution and deliver results in a dynamic and highly matrixed environment.
  • Delivery track record: Proven ability to drive change, lead adoption of new ways of working, and leverage scaled Agile practices to drive successful product development and delivery.
  • Product experience: Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a Product organization driving large, complex, and transformational initiatives.
  • Analytical mindset: High-intellectual curiosity and strong analytical and critical thinking skills with experience in complex problem solving and strategic thought leadership.
  • Highly collaborative: Ability to effectively collaborate with and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on shared objectives.
  • Effective communicator and influencer: Ability to influence key partners and executive stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, proficient in developing excellent quality presentations and deliverables for an executive audience.

Salary Range: $150,000.00 to $225,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
