The role is varied and dynamic you will be required to lead in supporting, developing and delivering practice standards in Children's and Young Peoples Community Nursing Services that engages across multiple health care partners. You will foster and develop a culture that supports continuous learning and development, whilst overseeing a range of clinical teaching and learning opportunities. You will act as a role modeland support the senior leadership team to enable operational and patient focused expertise within Children's Services,. You will promote and work within a culture of clinical innovation and quality improvement that supports Children, Young People, and their families to remain at home.

Main duties of the job This role will sit within the Leadership and Practice Development Team in the Sussex Wide Children's and Young Peoples Community Nursing Service. The role contributes to the improvement of patient care through the development of standards to ensure the smooth operational delivery of the service. You will work across professional and clinical disciplines, aligning quality standards and clinical governance strategies with operational performance
  • Work closely with theGeneral manager of CYP Community Nursing and Matrons to support professional recommendations in relation to service redesign and new ways of working. Provide support and advice to service areas with regard to the education and learning implications for service development.
  • Contribute to the improvement of patient care and patient safety by effectively disseminating and integrating evidence based guidance into clinical practice. Work as an innovator capable of facilitating changes in clinical practice and pioneering new frameworks to support practice and to increase the skills and confidence of registered and unregistered practitioners.
  • Act as a change agent, using skills that will motivate and reassure staff through negotiation and training to facilitate change processes. You will provide constructive feedback, following supervision of practice. This may inform management and change processes

Job description Job responsibilities We are delighted to offer this position to support the development and delivery of the Children's and Young Person Community Nursing service. You will work alongside clinical and operational colleagues to provide leadership that focuses on the operational, clinical and associated public health nursing of children and young people and families service-wide.

The successful candidate will join a Team which delivers excellent Children's services to the residents of Sussex, working in collaboration with our system partners across health, social and voluntary care. You will have a full valid driving license and access to a car for work purposes.

Our key priority is the care and welfare of our children, young people and their families and you will be an essential part of this dynamic service providing high quality community care to enable them to return to or remain in their own homes.

You will have a lead role in supporting development and delivery of practice standards within Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing Services, with the following responsibilities:
  • Foster and develop a culture within Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing Services and the wider organisation that supports continuing professional development.
  • Provide a range of clinical teaching and learning opportunities for Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing Services.
  • Act as a role model for clinical staff and promote the delivery of best practice.
  • Support clinical areas and where appropriate facilitate action to ensure delivery of safe, effective and efficient patient care.
  • Support the senior nursing leadership team in developing action plans and investigate complaints or incidents to address service needs and clinical care.
  • Work within the Practice Development Team, with a particular focus on Children's Community nursing services.
  • You will be a registered nurse child, with a specialist practice qualification or equivalent and a relevant post graduate certificate in education (or equivalent) or working towards the qualification. .
  • Participates in Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing service and trust wide development to support management of change and contribute to the departmental & organisational budgetary management and be responsible for the management of physical assets (e.g. access to study days and university modules).
  • Provide education and support for workforce development in line with current initiatives in Service Development. Creating a psychological safe environment where change can be initiated.
  • Strategic oversight for the service clinical and professional development needs
  • Strategic oversight of pre-registration and post registration nursing students and other health professional students that have a placement with the Children and Young People Community Nursing Service.
  • Represent the Childrens Young Peoples Community Nursing Service at the trust wide education forums to provide accurate insight of the needs of the service
  • Represent the Childrens Young Peoples Community Nursing Service with education partners such as HEIs and HEE
  • Work in partnership with the senior management team to provide governance and assurance of clinical competency within the Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing service
  • Strategic oversight of the creation and delivery of the teaching sessions / programmes within the Childrens Young People Community Nursing Service.
  • Plan and facilitate teaching sessions / programmes in line with Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing service needs.
  • Participate in audit and research as required for the Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing service
  • Facilitate group clinical supervision within the Children and Young Peoples Community Nursing service
  • As part of the leadership team, you will use your leadership skills to promote staff engagement, influence change in practice and create supportive clinical workplace. Demonstrates appropriate behaviour in stressful and difficult situations in a range of settings. Supports and where appropriate counsels staff and ensures peer supervision strategies are in place.

  • Registered Nurse Children's, with current registration
  • Specialist Practice Qualification in Community Childrens Nursing or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level
  • Post graduate certificate in education or willing to work towards/undertake
  • Evidence of completing Master's level academic modules
Experience Essential
  • Significant post registration experience with at least 3 years caseload/clinic management within the community setting at band 6/ or in an acute setting at band 6 level.
  • Change management and leadership experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in autonomous clinical decision making
Desirable
  • Contributing to clinical teaching programme
  • Teaching on HEI clinical curricula
