Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Sheffield Rape & Sexual Abuse Centre Full time

We are currently recruiting for a self-employed bank children's assessment counsellor to join our team to deliver assessments to children and young people who have referred in to our counselling service.

Successful applicants will join our friendly and supportive team of counsellors, staff and volunteers.

We are a vibrant, forward-looking organisation with a commitment to continuous improvement and offer opportunities for continuing professional development to all team members.

Sessions at SRASAC are either delivered remotely via video call - or face-to-face.

Due to client demand for face-to-face counselling, we are seeking a counsellor from the South Yorkshire area who is able to
primarily work from our office in Sheffield City Centre.

Assessment counsellors are asked to deliver a minimum of 2 assessments per week as well as some shorter pre-assessments going forward.

We ask new assessment counsellors to commit to providing sessions for a minimum duration of six months.

Summary of the role:

  • To offer onetoone assessments to children and young people who have experienced rape and/or sexual abuse at any time in their lives.
  • To use a trauma informed approach to assessing clients, contributing to a safe and ethical counselling service for the clients of SRASAC.
  • To maintain accurate, confidential and up to date records and to undertake necessary administrative tasks as required by SRASAC.
  • To undertake approved clinical supervision as required at own expense and maintain own personal indemnity insurance.

  • Assess clients based on to our criteria for suitability for the counselling service, with the ability to sensitively handle assessments where the client is not currently suitable for the service. To work collaboratively with these clients to develop an alternative action plan or identify other services/resources that could support them.
  • Where relevant, refer on to other local and national services, clients who are not suitable for the service at SRASAC. This requires a good knowledge of wider services (or a willingness to learn this information if not local to Sheffield).
  • Identifying clients who may be at risk, drawing appropriately on internal and external resources to minimise and contain these risks in line with SRASAC's safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining confidential and accurate records in line with relevant SRASAC's policies and procedures.

Interested parties should have the following:

  • Accreditation (or eligibility for accreditation) by the BACP, UKCP or equivalent professional body. We will also consider applicants with relevant prior experience who are in the final stages of working towards accreditation.
  • Substantial postqualification experience of individual counselling and delivering clinical assessments within an organisational setting for children and young people.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with issues around rape and/or sexual abuse, ideally in a therapeutic setting.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience of safeguarding children and young people, ideally in the voluntary sector.
