Job Description

The Drug and Alcohol Outreach Service works alongside the Adult Community Service and the Young People's Service to ensure that an accessible treatment offer is available to those who find themselves rough sleeping or in insecure accommodation. The Drug and Alcohol Outreach Service is countywide and promotes an holistic multi-agency response to the needs of the individual. In addition to the Rough Sleeper Drug and Alcohol Service, we have a Hospital Outreach Team and a Housing In-Reach Team that support complex individuals. We are looking to recruit Outreach Workers who will be trained in each area and will provide support to the teams, depending on where the need is greatest.

As Outreach Worker you will be meeting people in their space more often than in an office, therefore you must have a current driving licence with access to a vehicle.

We have 2 positions available, please confirm in your cover letter if you would like to be considered for Truro or Penzance.

This role will be working on a new project alongside other services providing outreach support to clients around Cornwall with drug and alcohol issues who are struggling to maintain their housing.

We are looking for a resilient and committed individual who has an understanding of the problems faced by individuals finding themselves homeless or in insecure accommodation and who enjoys a challenge. Experience of substance misuse would be beneficial though we will provide training.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is passionate about what we do, and with a positive and engaging approach to our service users and staff.

The post holder will be required to work 37.5 hours per week with occasional weekend work. A full UK driving license is required.

Should you be successful in your application, you will be required to provide 3 years worth of references and where applicable, will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Required Skills

Demonstrable experience working in the fields of outreach, housing/homelessness health, social care, criminal justice, domestic abuse, or another specialist setting Knowledge and understanding of issues that may lead to homelessness and substance use and the ability to determine the level of risk for service users with multiple Ability to work effectively as a team player and on your own Ability to build effective relationships with a range of internal and external Stakeholders, particularly housing providers Knowledge and understanding of health and safety, including an understanding of current trends in evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders including psychosocial and pharmacological interventions. Experience in completing Blood Borne Virus (BBV) testing. Page 4 of 6 Essential criteria Desirable criteria assessing high-risk situations for clients Knowledge and understanding of: - Homelessness - Assessment, care planning and key working; - Issues affecting substance misusers particularly those who are homeless or rough sleeping - Rehabilitation - Crisis Intervention Full UK Driving Licence and own transport (the role will involve travelling to a variety of housing and day centre projects across Cornwall)
