The post holder will provide training, development and awareness raising of addiction and recovery across Wearside.

The purpose of the role is to enhance understanding and reduce stigma related to addiction, creating recovery-friendly workplaces and communities.

This post requires flexible working to ensure consistent cover and some out-of-hours work including occasional weekend work.

Key Duties:

  • Deliver accredited and nonaccredited training packages to the wider community including employers.
  • Attend networking events, actively building relationships and promoting the offer.
  • Cofacilitate training as appropriate with colleagues with lived experience of addiction recovery.
  • Work closely with the wider Recovery Connections team including IPS
  • Coproduce training with members of the Wearside recovery community
  • Identify opportunities and gaps across all remits and create packages in response to needs.
  • Support employers to explore the needs of their workforce concerning problematic drug, alcohol and process addictions.
  • Promote mutual aid and all pathways of recovery.
  • Provide general information and advice to people within the community who have problematic drug and alcohol use and would benefit from recovery support.
  • To communicate professionally over the phone and in person with anybody contacting the service.
  • To collate relevant data and information for monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Complete administrative tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
  • To perform as a full team member supporting colleagues across the recovery service and being open to reasonable requests from line management to ensure effective working relationships.
  • Understand, uphold and work with the values, ethos, aims and objectives of the organisation.
  • Complete organisational induction, relevant training and any other continuous professional development as identified through a line management process.
  • At all times adhere to relevant legislation.
  • Represent the organisation, raise its profile and promote its cause.

  • Work within safeguarding legislation and policies for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Prepare for and participate in supervision and appraisals.

Person Specification - Essential Criteria

  • Training qualification
  • Understanding of issues relating to addiction and recovery.
  • Experience of facilitating groups and delivering training programmes
  • Community development experience including promoting social networks
  • Understanding of social exclusion effects and the impact of stigma.
  • Acceptance of the importance of upholding quality standards, performance monitoring and collating appropriate statistical information.
  • Level 2 Health & Social Care qualification
  • Willing to undertake training in health and safety, including assessing highrisk situations for clients.
  • A caring attitude with an unprecedented belief that people can and do recover from addiction
  • Personal or family experience around addiction and recovery would be beneficial but not essential

Management Accountability
To the Sunderland Team Leader who will provide direct line management supervision.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

  • Promote Recovery Connections opportunities to the recovery community, voluntary sector, health services, social work departments, Criminal Justice services and other organisations.
  • Receive referrals and introductions to individuals affected by addiction and facilitate access to the available community, educational and training activities.
  • Work in collaboration with the recovery community to coproduce a recovery community centre model across Sunderland.
  • Deliver and cofacilitate a range of individual and group
- based meetings, workshops and social events.

  • Support the aspiration for Sunderland to achieve Inclusive Recovery City status.
  • Coordinate an IRC working group and ensure representation from all stakeholders.
  • Contribute to supporting people in their continual progression to be active stakeholders and Lived Experience ambassadors.
  • Coordinate and deliver Recovery Ally training across professional and community based groups.
  • Contribute to the aims and objectives of IPS employment programme.
  • Planning and implementation of strategic objectives and contribution to relevant steering groups.
