Are you an information professional, looking for your next challenge? There is an exciting opportunity to reinforce and develop Information Governance within the UK Strategic Command (UKStratCom) Chief of Staff's (COS) High-Level Budget (HLB) area.


The COS HLB Information Governance Officer is responsible for leading on Information Assurance (IA), Data Protection (DP), and Knowledge and Information (KIM) activities across the HLB, ensuring controls and monitoring are in place to exploit, protect and assure our information assets in accordance with departmental policies and the legal obligations (including the Data Protection Act 2018 regulations) placed on the HLB.


This is a lively and fast paced role and will suit someone who is passionate about and committed to information governance and assurance.

The post will help to ensure that COS HLB, the newest and smallest HLB within UKStratCom, delivers against its information governance requirements.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description:

The Information Governance Officer is based within Strategic Command's Headquarters in Northwood.

If successful, you will oversee and provide direction on all information management (IM), and information assurance (IA) processes and practices in COS HLB, to ensure that the whole HLB achieves and maintains superb IM, IA, Information Exploitation (IX) and Data Protection (DP).


A self-starter with day-to-day autonomy, you will have a consistent record of providing high quality information management advice and support.

You will quickly build effective relationships to work confidently and provide trusted and reliable advice and support.


By keeping up to date with information governance developments, you will be able to propose new and revised information governance and assurance changes to COS HLB procedures and working arrangements, to ensure we meet MOD and the UK Government's requirements as well as continually improving the way we support the wider HLB team.


You will be part of a friendly Governance team of 4, which is part of the COS HLB Resources and Policy team.

The Governance team works closely with colleagues in workforce, HR, and finance to provide a strong support structure to the HLB.

You will benefit from the support of a D-band team member.


This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace, Northwood HQ, and working from home as a personal choice, based on business assessment of where the work is best done.

Person specification:

  • Develop and deliver improvement to Information maturity and embed robust Information Culture across the HLB on Information Assurance themes.
  • Assist with the capture and management of Information Risks
  • Ensure that COS HLB Third Party Suppliers are assured, as directed by the TLB Information Governance team.
  • Maintain the COS HLB Register of Business Critical ICT systems
  • As required, act as focal point for WARP and Security Breach handling
  • Enable and deliver IM, IX and IA training for the HLB
  • Ensure all processes are followed in accordance with UKStratCom IA Strategy, Information Directive and JSP 44
  • Lead monthly Information Management Working Groups which deliver improvements to IM, IX and IA maturity in the BLBs.
  • Act as a focal point for the HLB to ensure compliance with Data Protection policy and guidance
  • Carry out annual reviews of the DPIA register and the Information Asset Register (IAR).
  • Adhere to TLB Subject Access Request (SAR) commissions, using eCase to administer SARs, as advised by the TLB Data Protection Advisor.
