This role is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled Public Affairs professional with a strong grasp of UK regional engagement and a solid commercial background. You will be joining one of the top Financial Services providers in the UK as part of the Group Public Affairs, Levelling Up, and Investments team at Aviva. In this position, you will need to think innovatively, identify commercial prospects, and ensure that Aviva makes the most of its investment possibilities while fulfilling crucial public policy requirements. This role, based in the York office, will focus particularly on our engagement in York and Sheffield.

A bit about the job:

You will actively contribute to shaping the investment policy landscape in which Aviva operates, supporting our investment entities in making informed decisions, especially through our regional engagement efforts. Internally, you will serve as a trusted advisor, guiding productive discussions and developing effective campaigns and strategies for our brand. Externally, you will act as a reliable representative, participating in regular face-to-face meetings and events, and establishing strong working relationships with key government contacts, both at regional and central levels.

Aviva implemented "smart-working" in 2020, promoting flexible work arrangements. However, owing to the nature of the role, the selected candidate will be required to travel regularly within the region and less frequently nationwide to attend meetings and events, as well as visit our London head office.

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Deep understanding and experience of UK regional engagement, coupled with prior involvement in a Public Affairs-focused role, whether in the private or public sector
  • Strong abilities in influencing, negotiation, relationship-building, and networking, including comfort in interacting with senior executives, politicians, and policymakers
  • Comprehensive comprehension of diverse commercial needs, identifying capital deployment opportunities and collaboration with enabling partners
  • Familiarity with critical central government policy drivers such as levelling up, devolution, net zero, patient capital, and UK investment strategies
  • Outstanding written communication skills, complemented by a collaborative team spirit (a true team player)
