A UK manufacturer, the business operates from four key locations across the Midlands employing over 400 staff and delivering sales in excess of £70m. Benefiting from the financial strength and market reach of its parent company, the business is highly profitable, with a strong market position. The business is undergoing a period of significant development and expansion with investment in a new factory and the implementation of new products, delivering innovative products, services, and technical solutions to a diverse customer base.
The Role
The Operations Director will be a key and influential member of the leadership team, responsible for delivering business performance and developing new initiatives to achieve market share and profitability growth. With responsibility for the delivery of £70m of sales revenue through the leadership of the multi-site operations, safety, and maintenance teams, the Operations Director will ensure outstanding delivery against key metrics such as Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Inventory and People. Key priorities will include:
- Providing outstanding leadership to direct reports (Head of Production, HSE Manager, Maintenance Manager) and the broader operational teams ensuring a culture of safety, inclusivity, equity and performance.
- Effective P&L management with a focus on capacity management, workforce flex, capex spend and margin optimisation.
- Contribution to the broader business strategy.
- Collaboration with the commercial and technical teams to drive and implement innovative efficiencies and process improvements.
- Development of the industrialisation strategy to enhance current production methods and facilitate the introduction of new product categories.
The Candidate
This is a role well suited for a proven Operations / Manufacturing / Production Director looking to join an ambitious business, requiring a transformational leader. The successful candidate will have led a multi-site (or significant single-site operation) B2B manufacturing operation, with a track record of delivering outstanding leadership, operational excellence, profitable growth, and change management. You will have a safety-first mindset. You will be an inspirational and inclusive leader with a track record of developing high-performing teams. Experience leading manufacturing within a bespoke manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous. Essential skills include strategic vision, financial acumen, operational excellence, risk management, collaborative capability, IT and digital literacy, and talent development. Well educated, ideally to degree (or similar) level, the successful candidate must be a credible leader, adaptable to change, with excellent communication skills.
