The Project

The project, Understanding the relationship between speaker's attitudes and linguistic behaviour across speech communities, is funded by UKRI/ESRC.

The overall project, led by Professor Marco Tamburelli (Bangor University), involves collection of quantitative data using a range of experimental techniques across five studies.

The overarching aim of the project is to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the nature and role of linguistic attitudes in language maintenance from a theoretical, empirical and methodological perspective.

Purpose of the Job

The post will involve working with Professor Marco Tamburelli and the Languages Attitudes Research Team. The postholder will assist the project team in organising and analysing the results and in writing up the findings. This will include assisting the research team in meeting the anticipated outcomes within the agreed timescales of the project.

Main

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the research team in delivering research outcomes. This could include contributing towards the creation of reports, supporting the research team in the presentation of research outcomes to internal and external stakeholders and taking part in the organisation of events and seminars to disseminate information;
  • Provide assistance and support in the administration of the research project. This might include disseminating information, participating in project meetings and liaising with stakeholders;
  • Prepare a range of empirical data for archiving in UK Data Service;
  • Take an active part in administration of the research project. This might include coordinating the project to meet aims and objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities;

  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge and interest in specific areas related to the post;

  • Demonstrate good analytical skills, ability to analyse data and present results appropriately;
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines. Demonstrate good computer skills, which could include knowledge of specific research related software.
