The Inherited Metabolic Medical Secretary is an essential and very important role.

This person will manage outpatient and inpatient waiting lists for the IMD department, organise diaries, book clinic appointments and transcribe clinic letters.

This role assists the consultants and nursing team in providing an excellent patient experience taking the patient from the initial referral through their treatment pathway.


  • To work directly for the Consultant as well as other wider member of the team such as nurses on the wards/clinic/Specialised teams, other Consultants in the team
  • Liaise with colleagues to book clinic appointments
  • Manage both outpatient and inpatient waiting lists for their own Consultants
  • To work with Administration team in the department covering annual or sick leave and assisting with workload if needed
  • To liaise with Directorate Management to ensure all patient are booked for clinic appointments/admissions in a timely fashion
  • To ensure the patient follows the 18 Week RTT pathway and is seen in a timely fashion
  • Any other Secretarial duties required from the Department
