**Job summary**:
An outstanding opportunity to join the Endocrinology Team has presented itself. Due to streamlining of the endocrine service we are recruiting a Consultant Endocrinologist to join our dynamic, forward thinking team across all UHB sites. Clinical academic PAs available and also opportunities to "try before you sign" with NHS locum positions.
- assist with delivering high quality endocrine care
- participate in endocrinology (with or without diabetes) outpatient clinics
- provide support to endocrinology specialist nurse team
- contribute to endocrinology MDTs, grand round, audit and medical hot case review meetings
- provide endocrinology specialist support to other inpatient medical teams
- provide senior medical cover for inpatients with general medical, diabetes and endocrinology related conditions
- participate in general medicine on-call rota
- support learning and development of junior medical staff and specialist nurse teams
- take the opportunity to develop an area of interest and have a leadership role in this area

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The Department:

- The Endocrinology service provides secondary and tertiary care to patients with a wide range of endocrine conditions from the West Midlands and beyond.
- World-leading research programme.
- Nationally and internationally recognised services, including pituitary disorders, thyroid, metabolic bone and calcium disorders, adrenal disorders (recently awarded Centre of Excellence status by the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumours, ENSAT), reproductive disorders and neuroendocrine tumours (also Centre of Excellence status); we also provide services for young people undergoing transition/transfer from paediatrics, survivors of cancer and pregnant women with endocrinopathies.
- The service centres around busy outpatient departments and MDT meetings. Future plans are to further develop integrated care pathways with primary care, one stop clinics, remote monitoring and increased use of PIFU.
- The department is jointly staffed by NHS and University. All services are supported by our nursing team who provide comprehensive care including running the endocrine day case unit, providing patient education and nurse-led clinics.
- The department works in close collaboration with biochemists, endocrine surgeons, geneticists, gynaecologists, neurosurgeons, obstetricians, oncologists, ophthalmologists, paediatricians and radiologists. It also has close links with Birmingham Children's Hospital, Birmingham Women's Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

**Job description**:

- Work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive endocrinology and diabetes service to the Trust and ensure that the highest standards of care are achieved.
- Work with colleagues in planning service delivery including a forward looking innovative practice.
- Contribute to the Trust's corporate and strategic objectives and undertake mandatory training required by the Trust.
- Work with colleagues to meet the required activity targets of the Trust.
- Play an active role in implementing the Trust's Clinical Governance program.
- Demonstrate active participation in clinical audit.
- Demonstrate excellence in patient care.
- Deputise for colleagues including covering for absence of leave and at short notice in exceptional circumstances.
