This role will lead on delivering, activity sessions, 1-1 support sessions and facilitating a peer support programme to children and young people who have experienced of been affected by domestic abuse Delivery of these sessions and programmes will: - Improve the emotional and physical well-being of the children and young people involved - Reduce participants levels of distress and - Enable children and young people to be better able to manage their emotions and behaviours.


  • The post holder will create a safe, supportive, trauma informed environment for children and young people referred to the DASU services.
  • Communicate and engage with victims and survivors of domestic violence nd abuse.
  • Provide access to information for victims/survivors of domestic and/or sexual abuse/violence.
  • Evaluate the quality of activities addressing domestic violence and abuse.
  • Contribute to the assessment of victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse.
  • Empower young survivors of domestic and/or sexual abuse/violence to recover and to regain control of their lives.
  • Deliver interventions towards increasing the safety of individual children and young people by providing 11 support sessions utilising appropriate resources for children and young people.
  • Support young victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse within safe accommodation, helping them to navigate their way around refuge life, gain a better understand domestic abuse and cope with specific anxieties and concerns.
  • Provide group support children and young people through facilitating the DART, and other group peer support programmes.
  • Ensure that children identified as needing additional support are signposted for external services e.g. safeguarding, counselling.
  • Ensure that any issues in relation to safeguarding children or vulnerable adults are brought to the immediate attention of DASU's Safeguarding Lead.
  • Ensure that parents are aware of, and encouraged to, reinforce the positive support work being carried out with their children in activity sessions, during family time.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all equipment and resources.
  • Undertake administrative tasks, keep records of service activity, and contribute to development of monitoring and evaluation tools. This will include providing details of activities to the senior management team so they can update funders.
  • Ensure all services and activities provided are delivered in line with the Play Work Principles, as established by Play Wales, and the five core principles of Trauma Informed Care, which are: Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration and Empowerment.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake ongoing training as part of continuing professional development.
  • The post holder will be expected to strengthen DASU's position as leading specialised domestic abuse service within North Wales by consolidating and improving community links and relationships with other statutory and voluntary agencies. The post holder will be required to facilitate presentations regarding the project to share knowledge and good practise.
  • The post holder will have a flexible approach to working hours supporting clients outside of normal working hours where necessary and strictly in line with DASU lone working policy.
  • The post holder will be expected to take part in DASU 'on call' rota and take annual leave and TOIL entitlement with care to ensure that the project has adequate cover in place.
  • The post holder will be accepting a role that requires intense emotional labour; it is essential that the post holder actions good personal boundaries and the ability to maintain a clear sense of client centred objectivity.

Essential

Experience of supporting children who have been affected by Domestic abuse.

Understanding of trauma and how it affects children and young people.

Experience of running therapeutic sessions with children and young people.

Has a sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures and policies.
