Finance Assistant

Job brief


Reporting to the Finance Officer, the post holder will be responsible for all delegated accounting procedures within Daisy Chain and to ensure they are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements and Daisy Chains best practice guidelines.

Hours 30 hours per week (Permanent)

Flexibility around working hours will be considered

Salary - £22, £24,000 per annum (pro rata)

Closing date 27th February at 12 noon 2024 with interviews scheduled to take place in the following 2 weeks.

Key Tasks

  • To follow all systems and processes to meet the requirements of the charity and legislation.
  • To ensure adequate financial controls are in place and adhered to.
  • To provide uptodate records and financial reports as requested by management, Finance Committee and relevant outside organisations.
  • To assist in the maintenance of the purchase and sales ledger ensuring all income is captured and payments are made and received in a timely and accurate manner. To reconcile ledger accounts and resolve any disputes.
  • To assist in maintaining Daisy Chains bank accounts, including making payments and reconciling accounts.
  • To assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts for the trustees, CEO and SLT to include P&L, Balance Sheet, cash flows and forecasts.
  • To help to prepare annual and interim budgets and monitor performance against them.
  • To assist in the preparation of the draft year end accounts and supporting documentation and work with the auditors during the annual audit.
  • To assist in the Gift Aid claim from HMRC including retail Gift Aid.
  • To assist in the monthly payroll process including payment in a timely and accurate manner.
  • To be a key point of contact for other departments on financial matters.
  • Maintains procedure notes, ensuring they are accurate and adhere to Charity Commission guidance.
  • Ensures all work and contact with third parties is to professional standards, and that full regard is given to confidentiality.
  • Undertake other administrative tasks as required.
  • Undertake any training and development deemed necessary for the pursuance of the post.
  • Any other duties from time to time, commensurate with the level of the post.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experience of working with accounting packages E&A
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role E
  • Experience of Microsoft packages E&A
  • Experience of working within the charity sector D&A

Qualifications

  • Level 3 AAT D
  • Part qualified/Working towards AAT D & I
  • A Level maths D
  • GCSE Maths Grade 7 minimum (or equivalent) E
  • Good general education E&A

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong IT and analytical skills
  • Understanding of accounting principles
  • Understanding of financial controls required

Other

  • Understanding of and commitment to the aims, ethos and philosophy of Daisy Chain E&I
  • Adhere to Daisy Chains safeguarding policies at all times E&I
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team E&A&I
  • Knowledge of Data Protection and GDPR E&I
