London, Greater London, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

Location: Hammersmith and South Kensington campuses

Background

The School of Medicine is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow to join the team developing and teaching the BSc Medical Biosciences programme (BMB). This exciting 3-year undergraduate science degree utilises blended teaching approaches and has students embedded in a teaching lab (known as Lab Pods) that mimics research labs from Year 1. There are many opportunities to further develop your teaching portfolio and interests across the programme. You will be working with a highly motivated and growing team to teach and further develop the curriculum, programme material and other learning opportunities for our talented students as part of this initiative.

Duties and responsibilities

The primary component of this role will be teaching and supervising BSc Medical Biosciences (BMB) students in Years 1 and/or 2 in the Lab Pods, together with a strong team of other BMB Teaching Fellows. These modules take place in state-of-the-art teaching labs as students explore a research hypothesis and the successful candidate will thus share the responsibility of leading laboratory and student lab meeting sessions, as well as recording attendance, marking assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback, and monitoring student progress. Troubleshooting and the development of new research project avenues are also important components of this role. In addition to teaching in Lab Pods, BMB offers additional opportunities to teach in blended theoretical modules, develop transferable skills sessions and to contribute towards the running of the BMB programme.

Essential requirements

  • PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, etc)
  • Extensive research laboratory experience in one of the following areas: Biochemistry, Physiology, stem cell biology, neurobiology or molecular and cell biology.
  • Experience in two of the following techniques: Western blot, QPCR, mammalian TC and cell viability assays, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy or bacterial cloning
  • Teaching or supervision experience in Higher Education, in a laboratory or classroom setting

Further Information

This role is a full time, fixed term role for 1 year based at Hammersmith & South Kensington Campuses.
