Job description:


Reporting to the HR Business Partner, the post forms an integral part of the HR team and assists in providing a comprehensive HR service to VCA's UK and overseas offices, supporting managers and staff on a range of general HR issues.

An apprenticeship also allows you to secure a qualification with no tuition / student fees as the programme is fully funded by the department.


You will spend 20% of your contracted working hours dedicated to your apprenticeship and will be surrounded by a supportive network.

You will be allocated a mentor and will have regular development conversations with your line manager to ensure your learning needs are met and you are on track to successfully complete your apprenticeship.


Your main duties will include but will not be limited to:
To advise on and monitor the development and implementation of VCA's strategy, policies, processes, and procedures in the following areas:

  • Provide comprehensive administration support to the HR team in all areas including Recruitment, Learning and Development and Employee Wellbeing.
  • To deliver comprehensive and professional HR administration support and advice across the full employee lifecycle and on all HR transactional processes.
  • Be responsible for processing all payroll related forms such as sickness absence documents, claims and local recognition awards. Updating the HR system where required.
  • Refreshing and maintaining annual leave records for all staff on the HR system.
  • The key contact within HR regarding the HR system, ensuring records are accurately and efficiently updated.
  • Ensure all HR activities are accurately tracked on the relevant trackers.
  • Be the HR system administrator, responsible for monthly running reports, and identify issues or discrepancies.
  • Manage and maintain the HR inbox, directing queries to the appropriate team member.
  • Support the HR Team and Hiring Managers with recruitment activities, such as arranging interviews, collating, and verifying ID and uploading sift and interview results.
  • Continuously review HR administration and other processes to ensure they are effective and efficient, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Raising purchase orders for Human Resources activities, such as a training and employee benefits.
  • Administration of the employee benefit system (EdenRed) and associated packages.
  • Contribute to the HR teams internal communications via the intranet hub and monthly team brief.
  • Support the VCA's compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following the retention policy and best practice.
  • Undertake any other duties or activities reasonably requested to meet departmental or company objectives.

About You
To be eligible for this programme, you will need to:

  • Be at least 16-years old.
  • GCSE English and Maths (grades 9 to 4 or A* to C)
  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have been a resident in the UK/EA/EEA continuously for 3years before starting the apprenticeship.
  • Have left fulltime education when the apprenticeship starts.
  • Not be in receipt of funding for other learning programmes (including another apprenticeship)
