Role Intro

Legal Utopia invites you to join our cutting-edge AI Governance Board as a Member. Becoming part of this board means overseeing our endeavors, operations, and proposed applications of artificial intelligence. As an AI Governance Board Member, your role involves supervising and advising to ensure alignment with legal and ethical norms. You will collaborate with diverse teams to establish and enact AI policies, examining the impact of AI on data subjects, the legal sector, stakeholders, and our organization.

Field of Operation

The Board's jurisdiction spans all AI-related undertakings in Legal Utopia, encompassing research, development, acquisition, deployment, and utilization of AI technologies, within specified directives. This entails both internally developed AI systems and those obtained from external sources or partnerships. It is distinct from a statutory committee under the Companies Act 2006 or Legal Utopia's corporate framework. Board members serve as independent consultants rather than as executive or non-executive directors of Legal Utopia.

Duration

Board Members are appointed by the Director of Operations and commit for a term of one year, extendable at the discretion of the appointing authority, i.e., the Board of Directors.

Engagement

The AI Governance Board will convene at least quarterly, with additional meetings scheduled based on exigencies. Each session is anticipated to span 1-2 hours.

Compensation

Board Members will receive £150.00 per hour for each quarterly meeting, which also applies to special or supplementary sessions.

Role Mandates

  • Supervision of AI Ethical Standards and Adherence to Regulations
  • Management of Risks Associated with AI Initiatives
  • Formulation of Policies governing Ethical AI Deployment, Data Management, Privacy, and Security
  • Engagement with Stakeholders to foster Effective Communication and Consideration of Diverse Perspectives
  • Review and Endorsement of Major AI Projects, with Authority to Request Adjustments or Reject Non-Compliant Ventures
  • Monitoring and Evaluation of AI Projects to Ensure Compliance and Assess Impact on Stakeholders and the Organization

Reporting Mechanism

The Board is mandated to submit periodic reports to the Board of Directors, updating on AI governance activities, risk assessments, and suggestions for addressing ethical and regulatory concerns.

Available Positions

Legal Utopia is on the lookout for three individuals to join its AI Governance Board, each possessing the specified background and experience outlined below.

Data Privacy/Protection Officer (x1)

  • Data Privacy and Protection Expertise with a minimum of 5 years in similar roles
  • In-depth Knowledge of Data Protection Regulations, including GDPR and UK Data Protection Act 2018
  • Track Record in Data Privacy Compliance at Scale
  • Experience in Developing and Implementing Data Protection Policies and Protocols
  • Proficiency in Handling Data Breaches and Managing Data Access Requests
  • Familiarity with Data Privacy Standards and Best Practices
  • Ability to Articulate Privacy Issues to Stakeholders and Management
  • Relevant Certification and Educational Background in Law, Computer Science, or Information Security
  • Experience in Collaborating on AI Ethics and Governance

Ethics Officer (x1)

  • Ethics and Compliance Experience of 5+ years
