An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Manager to join our London team. To be considered, you will come from a Civil Engineering or Construction background.

The Design Manager will be responsible to manage delivery of design on a major project working closely with commercial and production team in both preconstruction and construction stages.


The Design Manager will manage the development and implementation of design proposals ensuring they meet client requirements including budget constraints, presenting proposals for approval to the customer.


Key Accountabilities to include but not limited to:nThe design should deliver:nSafety in construction and usenQuality within affordable parametersnEase of maintenance, energy efficiency with minimum environmental impactnInnovation to meet customer goals and positive impact on the local communitynManage and ensure effective briefing of the Design Team including M&E elementsnManagement of any 3rd parties or novated design teams to ensure that they meet all clients specifications, and where necessary, checking the competence and resources of any incumbent design teams or 3rd partiesnManage Subcontractor design packages and technical approvalsnProvide advice and guidance on the "buildability" of the design proposals to the design and construction teams on all packagesnLiaise with all statutory bodies/authorities as required – such as town planning, building control and services e.g.

gas and waternSupport Change Control ProcessnLead Value Engineering ProcessnSupport the Safety by Design & Engineering forum or other similar forums, representing the business stream, as requirednLead the development and management of the design deliverables programmenEnsure there is a clear schedule of design deliverablesnLead gate reviews activities to ensure that they are timely and appropriate sign off is achieved at each project gate to include appropriate communication to project manager and principal design managernLead the co-ordination and production of design data, design deliverables, reports and documentation essential to the project and contractual requirements and report progress against the design deliverables programmenSupport implementation of the BIM CSUK protocols, including teamwork and collaboration and the management and sharing of data relating to BIM modelsnSupport BIM management during the bid stage ensuring the supply chain is fully aware of BIM requirementsnConsider the application of Lean construction techniques in order to save money, reduce waste and optimise constructionnEnsure that learning and best practice is captured from the bid/project with the aim of sharing it across the business stream and the businessnProactively contribute to the Risk and Value Management processnUndertake other duties commensurate with the level of this positionnComply with Company polices & procedures

Experience/Knowledge:

nExperience in Civils & Structures background (desirable)nProven experience in delivering design services on site during construction stage and successfully implementing design strategiesnGood working knowledge of BIMnHands on experience of delivering work-winning bids in a timely manner.

and know 'what good looks like' in bid submissionsnDetailed knowledge of codes of practice and other regulatory material, applicable to the Business StreamnNumeracy and bid/report writing

Skills:
nAbility to work on own initiativenSelf-motivated and enthusiasticnStrong interpersonal and communication skillsnAble to work effectively in a fast-paced environmentnExcellent IT Skills

Qualifications:
nRelevant Professional membership with an appropriate institute, e.g. RIBA, BIBSE, IET, aligned to the workstream is recommendednA valid CSCS card is a requirement
